Greetings s/ic/kos,
I come seeking help from anyone with expertise in graffiti culture. I'm doing realty in East Atlanta and am trying to stay on good terms with the local writer talent. Can anyone translate the names written here so I can give respects? I have 2 pictures and some random artwork for your troubles.
Also, any advice on how to show writers courtesy to avoid their wrath?

Well /ic/ isn't famous for being helpful or sociable. Anybody feel like contributing?

Pretty sure that's not the work of one artist but a crew.

The best way to show writers courtesy is common sense. Be polite, don't get in their way, and don't broadcast info about them as people.

do your own shit and don't fuck with anybody, don't step on anyone's piece, and if someone stomps you, you get up and you stomp right back like a man.

I think that' might be what those two graffiti would spell if one had to look for letters in there.

Besides those trying to be really edgy, I find it really surprising that /ic/ seem to give so much hate towards Graffiti writing as an art form and refuse to embrace it for what it is.
Graffiti, relies on many artistic disciplines like the use of contemplative colour schemes, balance and composition, style and flow, even in some advanced cases, perspective... The medium is restrictive and has its own quirks that can be identified and appreciated. Even really basic stuff like making sure there is only one light source and that all shadows adhere to the rule.
I understand the premeditated hate towards something that is by practice done illegally, but that is all part of the craft, it is how this certain piece of art is executed.
Remember, this is merely the contemporary offshoot of another, well respected but extremely similar artform known as calligraphy.

To me graffiti is mostly chicken scratches thrown around as if someone had urinated publicly (Imagine if everybody tagged everywhere they went), noob artists throwing low quality cartoon art in my face and overpainted windows. Sometimes it is pretty colors and done with skill but that is rare and overall it is just annoying.

Fair enough, it's a bit of a delicacy as far as art is concerned, so it's understandable that it's hard for an outsider to digest.
It's something you really have to be into to fully appreciate and understand.
Tagging is probably the most difficult to wrap your head around because the criteria that separates what is considered a stylish tag to what is considered crap is something that many would consider an acquired taste. Like beer, your initial thought is that it's all shit, but eventually you begin to understand the elegance behind it and you can begin to base your judgement off of more informed decisions.
I know it's of little interest to you, but if you needed to physically see graffiti masterwork to prove the point, you're best off finding your nearest commuter railway line and looking at the fences, rooftops and other surfaces that border it.

The first one is probably "to tek" spelled "totek" together but hard to tell with the dot on top
Could also be "toiek"
And the second is most likely "tares" hard to say too though since it's not connected

half write.

Its "tares" and "totem2" both of "burn unit". Every graffiti discussion I've had totem2 is the second name to come up following seen. I think he's a bit overrated but he's known and respected worldwide.
