For the most part, it is. People like that are the exception, that's why it's funny to post them in the first place, because we are so used to really amazing artists doing these type of classes that someone this bad feels totally out of place. I mean, gnomon is also kind of known for having the worst average quality of tutors. Just look at Schoolism or CGMA or New Masters Academy and try to find a terrible artist amongst their tutors. Not saying it's impossible, you probably could find one, but the vast majority of them are highly qualified in their field of expertize.

That's all you, anon. Before now the two posts with my drawing in them were literally the only posts I made at all ITT. Never said anything about OP, all I said in my posts was "this shit is hard" so if anything I was supporting the OP artist. I just wanted to do a study for a warm-up and I wasn't interested in anything in the study thread. So not to be rude but could you stop projecting on me?
Anyway I wanted to trying painting over my sketch. It's difficult with everything being such dark values but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, and happy enough to have some practice.

Keeping it to myself wouldn't allow me to get critiques, and I thought this thread was going to shift gears into critiquing each other. I posted here because this is where the relevant references are, and clearly other people posted here for the same reason, this is the thread where these images are being talked about. Besides that yeah, the person who posted the challenge clearly meant for people to try and do better so yeah I'm here for that challenge, but I was never one of the people bashing the other artist so I think it's fair enough to ask not to be judged on those grounds. I can see what you mean, the facial structure, the hair that goes into dark causing it to look like it could be short. The shade under the nose causing it to look like there could be a mustache.
