Ok artguys, I was almost ready to buy this painting but then I noticed there's something off about her right side..

It's like the painting is half-done and not finished.
What do you think?

Stamp on back.

It kinda looks like someone tried to paint over the nudity.

I'm not pro but I don't think that green part was the artists intention.

No shit.
>>
It bothers me because other than the green area it looks like a valuable painting.

If the green shit was painted OVER the actual painting, the original art can be recovered.
But I strongly think the painting was not finished but someone decided to frame it anyway. It's not signed which supports my theory.

Badly restored painting.
>>
possibly the vanish was applied when the paint wasn't fully dry and then at another time someone tried to remove the varnish and ended up taking away part of the paint?
>>
yeah, if they include the frame you could easy cheer it up a bit. Who (if anyone) painted it? How much are you paying for it?
>>
I contacted the seller and he said

"Probably just a type of shading. If it was unfinished it wouldn't have been stamped on the back"

Wow.

Hi anon.

it is hard to judge precisely from the photo, but it is likely simply an unfinished painting. The green is the underlying layer on top of which the artist would put thin layers of warmer colours. The green would still be visible in certain areas and suggest the translucency of the skin.

I can't tell you why the painting is unfinished. Either the artist wasn't happy with it, or maybe it was a study for a larger painting.

It looks genuine and decently painted. If you do not mind the unfinished part (if that is indeed what it is), it can be good to buy.

Yup, this is what I suspected too.

The price is 200 euros which is like 270 dollars...?

I'm a perfectionist and it bothers the hell out of me but I could also sell it to someone for 300 euros.

Tried to decipher the stamp, but the center is too bright.

Better, but still hard to tell.

Could be Greek. The E looks kinda like an Epsilon.

Nah, I'm talking nonsense, it's a trick of the light. But still, no idea what it says.
>>
Looks like an imitator of Guido Reni. Judging from other unfinished paintings by Reni, it's not an authentic Reni. The color is different for the underpainting. 300 dollars is still very cheap. The frame can cost about that much.
>>
The stamp could be from the company who made the canvas. I've seen alot of old paintings that have the mark from an Artist supply maker or textile company.

funny how the thumbnail looks more legible than the fullsized pic
