So, what is the outlook for a weeb artist who dropped out of high school and has no formal training? Did I fuck up? Am I fucked?
>>
Everything is about self motivation and practice. Life is what you make out of it, but those that understand this don't need to ask this. Should've studied more, not just art, just in general. An artist should be well learned in more than just art. Draw inspiration from life and studies and interests.

You're in a better position than many students at formal art schools, but that isn't saying much.
>>
Get a part time job to sustain yourself and use the rest of the time to really practice and learn how to draw. you'll need a lot of time to learn about art, learn about the business and how to bring in income from the skill, and depending on where you want to take your career, you will need time to pan that out as well. So self sustainability and allowing yourself time and adequate planning will be necessary.

did clint or steven silver create this little ad ?
>>
>>2269264
Ah, I'm not that stupid. I'm a skilled writer, a capable cook, somewhat of a negotiator, and even took a few law classes. All in all, I'm not worthless
>>
At least get your GED or whatever equivalent where you live. You are indeed fucked. You can't even join the military to fall back on. And if you aren't white good luck getting a job.

Welcome to hell, enjoy your stay.
>>
>>2269281
No, I did; it's based off of things they've said on-camera or in Bradley's case written down. If I recall correctly the stuff Silver says predates him opening his own school, I just included it because I think opening your own atelier after working for all of these big companies straight out of highschool is pretty impressive, and is a testament to what someone can achieve with limited formal education.
>>
>>2269246
As someone that's struggling to pay through community college, I hope this is true. Because there is no way I'll ever be able to afford art college. Hell, the Tuition for some of those universities cost as much as a house.
>>
>>2269320
add another dude next to silver as an example, right now it's look like an add make by him to promote his school, if there are two examples of such schools that won't be the case
>>
>>2269402
Buy a house and use it to draw in. If things go south, sell the house. You can't sell an art degree if it doesn't work out.

>be 20
>dropped out after middle school because of social anxiety and severe stammering/blocking
>been a NEET since, spent most of my time studying history, philosophy, and religion
>did GED last year but failed in math
>got into drawing a few months ago
>nothing to lose because no work

I don't care about the future, but would be content if I could make $600 a month (which is more than enough in this 3rd world shithole)

>who dropped out of high school

unless you have godly art and/or family is rich, you might as well just end yourself right now.

Say goodbye to one of those subjects soon
>>

600$ a month is incredibly easy to make. if you care about money only and don't necessarily want happyness first do the following 8 step program:

- study your fundamentals really well for 1-2 years
- make patreon/tumblr/da/fb/instagram
- grind like a fuking madman spamming fanart everywhere, and promoting the everloving CRAP out of your work
- do that for a year as if it was a fulltime job
- congratulations, you are now getting 400$ regularly in well paid comissions, ontop of monthly 800$ from your patreon

it does take around 3 years total though, assuming you start at zero fundamentals.

I take it this worked for you or you're just giving him your delusion plan you're following. It's going to take half a decade to build your audience.

1) Your only 'Fucked' if you give up. (No self-esteem = No will power)
2) I am a drop-out as well, but i make a living on coding & Web-developing, on a part-time.
3) You should start small. Dont look for big things right away, thats never a good solution to anything. (Ex: "Dont buy expensive things, buy small things.") - Learn to Prioritize.

>>2269754
wow, Had a bad-day or something? Tell that to a homeless person instead, rather than on the web. Yet alone your own Parents.
>>
>>2269766

No man. This is exactly what I did. I guarantee you it works. It's incredibly simple and straight forward. I don't think you realize how much work it STILL is though. you need to be active all day everyday, interacting with the community, spamming comments everywhere, spamming your shit everywhere, updating on every platform/channel, drawing fanart, furry porn and pandering. it's not worth it unless you like fanart or ponies and furries.
>>
Not saying that giving yourself one option is silly, but I would recommend that you get a job and go back to school to learn some skill that will make you more money. Don't give up on art, just squeeze it in the preciousness few hours you had to sleep. That way you wont be working a shit job for 10 years while you practice and you will have a great work ethic that will carry over into your art career. That last part is especially important as most of the artists i know put in 70 hour weeks and still practice outside of that time.

Enjoy the monologue

Several years ago I was at my final years of university with just a handful of exams left (tough exams), I had broken up with my gf so I decided to leave the flat I was sharing and get back home to give the last few exams.

My father dies and we're suddenly a lot poorer. Pressure to finish university. My chronic illness re-ignites the worst it's even been and I basically end up wasting 2 years in and out of hospital.

I get better and I resume university only to discover I'm completely out of the loop and I'd have to take a year or two to study everything from scratch. Anxiety ensues. I get to the point where I look at the books and I get palpitations. This basically goes on for a couple years, I start having thoughts of suicide and shit. I realize I'm becoming way too fucking depressed and I decide to quit university. I take therapy and meds to overcome the fact I'm completely unemployable with no qualifications and not a single work experience in one of the lowest employment countries in Europe.

As soon as I got my lucidity back I was.... Fuck this. I have always loved drawing, I loved doing this shit, I'm going to give a shot at living this life. If it goes badly I'll just ride this wreckage till it sinks.
I'm still taking medications and I'm.... well a few years away from 30.

Sometimes I feel like I'm making a terrible choice and I can just feel the fucking darkness knocking at the door, I know there's no coming back and no safety net, and I wouldn't go back anyway. I think this is what I was meant to do. I'm scared as fuck but drawing comics is the only thing I see myself doing with my life, I don't care anymore about pride or success or my family's opinions or economic independence, I have to make it.

You don't qualify for any grants? Pell and the SEOG grants pay out quite a bit, and community college isn't that expensive. Well, at least here.

That said, as someone who's also going to community college(thank you Pell grant), I've had some really positive portfolio reviews and it looks like I'll be able to get scholarships/grants to cover most if not all of my costs when I transfer to a four year. Most of the schools I'm looking at offer some pretty substantial scholarships(one offers $5000 for people who already have an associates, plus others; another offers $15000-20000 based on merit; yet another anywhere from $6000-18000), so the tuition numbers are way more intimidating than what you might actually pay.

Course, you gotta already be pretty decent to get those scholarships.
>>
definitely not over, but its going to be hard. You should at least go through an adult highschool program or GED program so that you can at least get most of the basic jobs to help support yourself while you work on art. you dont need a degree for art, just a damn good portfolio, but that can be harder than just earning a degree, because it means you need to be at the top of your game and constantly improving to make money doing art.

>>2269226
if you get a GED you can go to community college.
if you have to come here to ask if there's hope that means there isn't.

maybe you could find a decent paying trade or something if you're lucky and look around for it.

and if you actually care about drawing then do it when you get home.
