Also, what's a lightbox used for exactly? Just tracing?

I feel like I'm over animating a tad and I know I'll need to switch it from a booth-type table to a regular chair to make the standing up make sense visually
>>
>>2259311
Very promising so far! I like the timing of the first bit, even though it wobbles a bit too much to read clearly. If you could draw the keyframes/extremes a bit more like the pic you posted, or like the thicker blues lines later on, those frames will feel more solid. Then the breakdowns could be as cheap as you want, to just suggest the motion. Anyway, loads of personality in it, and not particularly over-animated as far as I'm concerned: it's a style and feels great! The only thing that feels out of place is the pose at 0:06, maybe hold off on that for a few frames to make it more natural. Give that motion a little more time, as well as not be in sync too much with her words.

And perhaps add a second character for her to play off of, because right now I'm not sure where she's directing her emotions.

Also, still >>2259853, I had no idea working at 12fps was bad. What was their reasoning?
>>
>>2259855
The way it was explained to me that working on 2s at 24 fps is way better than working on 1s at 12 fps when you're first putting down your settings for the project in your program of choice.

In terms of 24 fps there's nothing wrong with working on 2s, it's just that if you want to get faster action, you'll have room to incorporate it then whereas if you set your project to 12fps, you're pretty much fucked if you need to change it up later.
>>
>>2259859

TVPaint lets you change framerate on the fly which is pretty sweet. I guess it's only a problem if you're using software that doesn't let you do that.
>>
>>2259872
I use Toon Boom Studio (haven't yet done the 99 buck upgrade to the basic Harmony) and when I do change it, you gotta manually change all your exposures, which can be a hassle
It's easier to just avoid that hassle in the first place
>>
>>2259875

Yeah that's true I have to do the same thing in TVP as well, when you're right you're right.

I am planning on animating a jumping creature in slow motion. the camera will spin around the character similar to pic related (but much slower and detailed). I went straight ahead with the sloth, but I didn't plan anything and that's why it's such a mess.
this time I want to plan ahead and do it properly. should I animate straight ahead or do some key frames and then inbetween? because it's slow motion I don't think it'll work with keyframes. I should note, that the character will already be in mid air, so there's no anticipation or ground scene.
any advice would be most welcome.

>>
>>2260083
Fix that weird blowback at the end of the beam shot, do some adjustments with samus' tweens to make the recoil make more sense, one more layer of debris in parralax would look nice, finish the coloring of the chewing frames on Kirby, and it looks like a fist is going to be coming up through him on the last few frames, so I assume it's unfinished.

All in all, it's still much better than 90% of the scrubs normally in these threads. Keep it up you've got potential.
>>
>>2260743
To help with the proportions/perspective maybe make a quick 3D model, so for each frame you have some starting size and angle to work off of. Seemed to work pretty well for these guys: https://youtu.be/jMCDRjReuck?t=1m42s
>>
>>2260106
That's good to hear
How is it? Would you say it's worth the upgrade? I do know I'll have to finish up whatever I have in progress before info because I don't think I can import from TBS to Harmony
>>
>>2260969
You can't import, no.

It's... An adjustment... Runs better, for sure, and they fixed the goddamn stroke editing tool, so it doesn't use near as much resource and crash even an R9 290 regularly.

It looks nicer, too, but you'll definitely have to get used to some things. Like instant motion is gone somewhere, and you have to go in and set your shortcuts to the "toon boom" setting.

Seems like the whole rigging process is slightly different, and I'm not sure yet if I like it more or less.

If tb runs well for you, I'd wait for an upgrade sale. That's how I got mine.
>>
>>2260972

Forgot to mention that webgen animators are a big deal right now because they have the innocent passion of working really hard and fast. >>
>>2267245
This. What the fuck are you talking about >>2267244 ? Are you saying you're using the storyboards as keyframes? Since you're not supposed to do that. That's what layouts are for. You can use the storyboards for animatics (If they are detailed enough, camera movement, character movement), but generally you redraw the entire storyboards to fit in an animatic, and then time everything in the animatic. So yes, you are doing it very wrong, whatever you're trying to do.
>>
>>2267247
Then I must be on the animatic stage. Im just trying to setup my timing, most of it is on 8's and 12's, is that normal? How do I know if the timing is good?

lol you are not listening. even if you do animatics, why are you concerned with framerate? use your keframes and time the poses in seconds.

>>2267263
In the animatic, it doesn't matter if a drawing is held for 8 frames or 12 frames or 812 frames (ok not that much). Just time it out to what feels right. Once you have the rough timing, you back and tighten it down to the frames.

typical beginner's mistake. there is no stretch and squash, when the ball is near the apex. also keep the volume. the timing and spacing's off.
and the second animation doesn't feel like a bouncing ball at all.
just do it again and again till you get it right.
read preston blair's book, it's free

A typical beginner's mistake would be to not stretch and squash at all. My frames were sloppy, but according to Dick, the mistake I made was more precisely that my outgoing stretched ball made contact with the ground plane. As you can see from page 94, the shape of the ball is preserved at the peak of the arc in a standard ball bounce sequence.

do you exclusively use pen tool? You should try starting with rough drawings with a pen tablet, or even on paper. you have very little motion because you're starting off too clean.

be loose and get the timing and motion down first, then clean up after

Any advice on doing timelapse shots like pic related? I get that there's a lot of blurring and stretching. It just seems a little daunting to take on, as character animation is my specialty. Not effects. Any advice would be appreciated.
>>
>>2274337
Take this same scene and rotoscope it, paying attention to the way the shapes and colors change as they move.
>>
>>2272661
Not bad, there's a lot of secondary action to keep track of but it looks like you've got a handle on it.
It might be better if the hat had a little more dimension, it's design is very flat and kinda doesn't work together with the volume of her breasts and hips.
>>
>>2273775
Does that huge crown stay on his head when he bows? These big shapes are important to keep track of. Though a bigger issue looks like his balance is off during the bow.
Why is a king bowing in the first place? Very strange choice of action for the character I'd say.
>>
I'm probably overthinking this but question for you guys:

How much thought do you put into your animation? I know a lot of the illustrators tend to just draw whatever they feel like, but when you guys put months or years of work into something, do you consider underlying meanings? Or do you just just animate stuff you like?

her movement is very straight up and down.
it feels unnatural to bring it close, then closer to the face, then stick out her tongue, then lick it. we of do our actions together rather than one at a time.
>>
>>2280310
so she should... bring out her tounge out WHILE her head's going down?
>>
>>2280313
kind of, yeah. id have her sort of stop, look and inspect it, and then dip her head down (tongue not really out) and then take a cautionary lick. the whole thing reads as "she's curious/cautious, and then surprised by how it tastes". if i was tasting an unfamiliar-looking mushroom (which is what I assume that is), i wouldn't exactly give it a wholehearted lick.

or you could just bring the mushroom closer to her face from the beginning instead. but it's just my opinion. also the mushroom on her head does a weird shape change as she licks it, not sure if it's intentional.
>>
>>2280316
yeah, that mushroom-changing bit is more just me being a lazy bitch.

That all sounds like a good idea and the solution to why this looks so stiff to me.

Thanks, anon. I'll get to work on it.

Read The Animator's Survival Kit by Richard Williams. I don't understand what you mean by Loomis of animation, sorry.

While you go through that book, supplement it with exercises from;

http://www.animatorisland.com/51-great-animation-exercises-to-master/

Use TVPaint, you WILL have to go through the keyboard shortcuts and either change them or learn what keys you need to press, as the UI is very unintuitive. If for whatever reason you absolutely have to use PS or Flash, you might as well go with Flash instead.

>>2281352
If you want to animate a loop, then try starting off with a bouncing ball and make sure there's no decay, in other words so that it seemlessly repeats itself so it doesn't snap back at the end of its animation. To be able to animate pornography would work the same way, except with all that anatomy and whatever that you'd have to include. Attached is an image I pulled off of someone's page as an example of the ball bounce loop. Sorry if this isn't what you were looking for!
