just keep drawing on it, there's no real secret besides getting used to it. If you want, get a program that supports pressure.

It can take a while to get used to drawing on a tablet. And probably longer to produce something you deem worthy to keep. But don't give up! Your time and effort will be rewarded.

References should be used until you can visualize an image in your head and drawing from that.
If you draw without thinking while copying a reference, you are not learning anything. Sometimes when I have a really vivid image in my head, I sort of day dream while I draw, not really looking at the picture on the page, more in my head.
