Out of curiosity, how far is that image from being done? Or rather, what else do you do to an image before you call it "complete"? To me, it already seems like you have most of the image down, but I know you tend to at least clean up the lineart before calling it done.

Tracing isn't practicing, you've missed the point of references.
You need to copy, understand and replicate the image not draw over it.

no non nooo i didnt trace the one on the left, i traced and then estimated where i thought her body would be over the actual pics on the right, and then i kinda drew the boxy looking things and stuff to sorta build the figure and then i lined over that to eventually get the pic on the left

im actually really upset because of this, i almost didnt do this because doing it this way DID in fact involve tracing the originals, so it felt kinda cheaty, but i did make the pic on the left on my own using the boxes/guides stuff on the right as refs to start the pic on that more basic level of just shapes.
the pic on the left start on nothing, i made the boxes that would be the upper torso, and the hip area, then drew the basic cones for legs, and so on.
so, now that i explain it that the pic on the left started form scratch, does that at all help me out here?
I am doing everything i can to try to say that i did not trace the pic on the left.

i've been reasonably busy but mostly i've just gotten a new laptop so its been a hassle moving everything to a new system (not mention learning how to work with win8)

waiting on new tablet. anything that uses uses opacity/density like airbrush tools pretty much dont work now my intuos small. windows 8/8.1 pretty much ruined everything. i cant even sketch. you have to press really hard and it looks like sht just using a low density pen on sai. works fine on win7. prolly wacom's way of subtly forcing you to spend almost 300 dollars on a newer model.
i don even know if itll fix the problem which even persisted when i installed the three drivers that came before it. i can only conclude its a hardware issue. either tablet (hopefully in this case) or my new laptop.
