>car software
Im a vehicle engineer, and the only reason a modern car has that many lines of code is because engineers are terrible programmers and everything that can be done with 1 line of code gets bloated. if i had a buck for every time someone wanted my approval on some bullshit spaghetti-code and didnt get why this wont fly because "well it works just fine.....".

That is one of the scariest things, the lazy and shitty code practices that goes into various things.
Not really as serious as it sounds but showcases the laziness

Hopefully with the more serious business like self-driving cars and robot revolution, it's going to be more strict.

Honestly i think it will take some time for this to improve. Part of the problem is that while engineers code a lot while in collage (at least in my experience), most of the work is judged on a "does this work" basis, rather than any sort of good coding practices. and honestly as a professor you wouldn't have time to go through everybody's work and comment on that, especially if you're a hardcore German engineer that first seen a computer in the 80's and hated them ever since (Alas, also from experience). We need to teach this shit from grade school.
