High schools in the US used to have Phys Ed classes where everyone showered nude everyday but they mostly don't do that anymore do to budget cuts and special snowflake students who dont want to take gym classes and are afraid of having others see them nude.
Private gyms used to have spas and saunas and communal showers but many of those have been removed and replaced with separate shower stalls do to rampant sex/cruising that offended straight people.

I read an article recently about public nudity in the US, specifically in gyms and changing rooms. It was written by an architect who designs gyms and has noticed in the past decade gym locker rooms have been designed with more and more privacy in mind. There were a few probable explanations as to why newer generations are more bashful and I think its a combination of a few elements.
1) Many baby boomers were enlisted in the military where nudity definitely has a "get over it" attitude: group physicals, showers, training, sleeping in the heat
2) More wealth leads to the affordability of privacy. As bigger houses are built that means that a family can spread out more. No more sharing bathrooms with 4 people or two kids to a room. Brushing your teeth while Dad showers wasn't unusual in a one level house of the 40s and 50s.
3) The toxic masculinity culture of the US is pretty blatant in this issue. Women are constantly hounded about their bodies and how they should look but young men are more subversively told how to look. You are just expected to be big and muscular with the right amount of body hair and a just big enough dick that doesn't look too small when it's soft. If you don't fit that quota then you aren't a man, or you're gay, or you're metrosexual. You either have a huge weird bush, or you're shaved and that's weird, or you trim and that's weird. With men there is literally no winning.

About 50 y ago in the mid west when we went to the lake to swim in the summer, boys under about the age of 10 - 11 routinely were nude, and that was in the presence of mothers, females of all ages, and the whole thing was without any sexual component or dimension.
