I'd use "alternative" as something that's outside of the general norm. So, when white men are dominant in Western ideals about male attractiveness, masculinity and also what's considered normal, how can they in this context truly be "alternative"? It's kinda like when young, white women think they can challenge a beauty ideal by doing shit with their hair or wearing a quirky t-shirt. It's not alternative. That's at best being a special snowflake.
