Why aren't there Protestant monasteries?
The leaders of the Reformation hated monasteries. Probably because of muh faith alone and all that.
What exactly is the point of monasteries?

Protestants took Christianity away from this sort perspective where spirtuality is caged and found in an institution or a ritual. It put Christianity into a way of life, something you do every day. Christianity isn't something you do in a building or something that happens once a week at a special place, it's about living a life guided by the holy spirit.

And that's exactly what ascetism is. Living a life devoted to God and saying "fuck you" to all kinds of mortal fun.
IIRC Martin Luther, who was an ex-monk, and married an ex-nun, put away the idea of monasteries because he didn't find anything in the Bible (Sola Scriptura!) which would imply that ascetism and monastery life would be preferable to living life "normally", so to speak.
Another reason why monasteries, or any other sort of organized, walled off-societies of ascetics of the same scale, didn't pop up in reformed countries was that after the reformation, the monasteries were plundered, and in the 17th century, which, here in Finland, is known as "the age/century of orthodoxy", the Lutheran state church of Sweden actively stomped out any and all kinds of deviation from the state church, even to the point that a law stating that all public gatherings needed to be approved by a priest, who would also supervise the gathering.

this is what hedonists believe. What you say holds once you are no longer a materialist hedonist. But I guess you feel good thinking that you are strong enough not to be a degenerate without a temporary physical seclusion to meditate on your love for pleasures and hate for pains.
