Mormons are scary
>>
>>938688
Same goes for pretty much any religion. Believers are great in ingoring facts.
>>
I ask the same about Marxism.

Actually scratch that, Marxism is pretty much dead except for a handful of low IQ academics.
>>
>>938720
I am not even a marxist and i read that post as
>Hurr durr hurr

>Durr hurr durr durr
>>

Thank you for your input.

Blind faith. The most degenerate thing in the world.
>>

>I am not even a marxist

Marxist spotted. Go be asshurt somewhere else.
>>
>>938734
>if you deny you're a Marxist and if you confirm you're a Marxist
Marxist spotted
>>
Going from Mormonism to Marxism in three posts. Never change, /his/.
>>
>>938739
You're probably some sort of anarchist whackjob who while isn't a Marxian socialist himself, he still ascribes to the pile of manure that is das Kapital.
>>
>>938745
>criticizing Marx
Y'know who else did that? Lenin. Fucking leninist
>>
>>938750
Lenin is more of a down to Earth guy than Marx, honestly.
>>
>>938688

No dumber than Christianity as a whole. Since they're not murderous slavers anymore, who cares?
>>
Same can be said for the Bible.

People are idiots.
>>
The Book of Mormon is long and boring~

No one can lift the damn thing~

And ideologies.

You can ask the same question about Christianity in general.

And Islam as well.

Reminder that seriously pretending all religions are the same is reddit tier nonsense and demonstrates your own ignorance of various theologies
>>
scientific advancement made large parts of christian dogma and the bible a joke

people will find a way to confirm their preexisting beliefs one way or another, mormonism is no exception. Mormonism is not even the most extreme example, see: scientology, flat earthers etc
>>
>>939217
>my religion is better!

No one ever said that they were all the same. They are all equally wrong tho.

Good Mormon history podcast. This is a good standalone but it generally follows the timeline from Joseph Smith's history on.
>>
Why is it so much easier to trick people than convincing them they are being tricked?
>>
From my limited knowledge of Mormonism:
Mormonism started as an outcast offshoot of outcasts; during the Second Great Awakening. They had polygamy which was deemed bad, a lot of teachings akin to theocracy etc., basically rendering them a cult to the rest of the US' Christendom.
This made them not welcome in a lot of communities and sent them out into the middle of nowhere. The theocratic communitarian ideology of Mormonism allowed them to work hard and render land in Souther America arable, and thus, they could settle where others didn't settle.
When the American constitution made the states secular, this would start a economic climate which would make it necessary for religions to sell themselves. This had already been present, and was a cause of, The Second Great Awakening.
But this climate slowly overtook the Mormon church and instead of the theocratic nature they developed a capitalist economy, and integrated themselves into the US' politics, economics and social climate.
An example is that today Mormons are the biggest supporters of Trump, and the most hardline Republicans.

They have simply been around for long enough to have:
Set up independent communities unaffected by your opinion.
Being influential enough for you to be affected by theirs.

I hope this helped, correct me if I'm wrong.

Your two fucking sentences contradict themselves you worthless piece of shit.
>>
>>939571
Didn't Utah vote Cruz?
>>
Just because it doesn't make sense doesn't mean it won't suceed, christianity is an example of that since two thousand years.
>>
>>939588
I am not very into American politics, I have just watched the demographics of Trump supporters. If I remember correctly, a large part of Mormons are inclined to vote Trump. That doesn't mean that his major support are Mormons.
>>
>>939581
They are all equally incorrect, but that doesn't mean they are incorrect in the same ways or are all exactly as harmful as one another. So not all the same, despite being equally incorrect.
>>
>>939571
Mormons didn't actually pick up polygamy until much later. It's actually a little bit of a contentious debate within the church over when they adopted it.

How so?

Almost zero Mormons voted for Trump. His biggest loss by far.

Aren't protestants notorious for giving no shits about archeology?
What with the whole 6000 year old earth and shit.
>>
>>939620
Thanks I have only dabbled in this so I am basically self-taught, I am from Scandinavia and we don't learn any doctrines of Christianity in depth except a bit about Luther.
Take what I say with a chunk of salt.
This thread just seemed a bit of a kickstart because this subject could be made interesting, looking at their position in the American power structure, how secularism allows them to resist criticism, how they still convert people etc.
This thread has a lot of potential, it just started in an unfavourable light.
>>
>Same as Christianity

Except archeology has neither disproved Christ's existence nor his miracles. No upboat for you today.
>>
>>939631
I looked up the statistics and you are correct.
I have memorised it wrongly; and here is the true facts I referenced to:
Of all Christian doctrines, Mormons are most likely to vote republican (not Trump).
My bad.

The defining characteristic of the modern scientist — and certainly of the popularizer — is smugness.

A great mistake the anti-religious fanatics make is lumping all religions together under the label of "religion" as if they were equal. But Nietzsche has clearly explained that Christianity stands lower than Buddhism, and Buddhism stands lower than the pagan religions of the various nations — and especially those of classical antiquity — which themselves stand lower then the religion of the future: philosophy/Overman worship. So... if by "the comeback of religion", which, it is now dawning on some, may now be under way, they mean "the comeback of faith" — after the temporary reduction in our estimation of the value of faith caused by the Enlightenment and the scientific revolution — they are correct. But the faith that will dominate and shape the future is no longer the faith in external gods, but in the gods within us.
>>
>>939647
That has been historically true, as the GOP branded itself the "family values" party, and Mormons are huge on family values.

As the GOP drifts away from those family values, I would imagine more Libertarian votes coming from SLC.

"joseph smith was right because you wear a fedora"

why reference archeology or any other field when all I have to say is "you wear a fedora" and I instantly win the argument.
>>
>>939952

They're one of the only sects that actually makes an honest effort to apply the teachings of the sermon on the mount. Everyone else tries to skate around it by saying it's only meant for the clergy, that it's impossible to follow, or that it describes what people should act like in a future kingdom of God.

The only pissed off depressed Amish I've ever seen are the kids that go on their wild whatever and refuse to return to what they know.

>kids that go on their wild whatever and refuse to return to what they know.

Ever drive through Pennsylvania? The boys gather on highway overpasses, just to watch the cars go by for hours...

They're not happy, they're stupid. They're repressed. You should applaud the bravery of the ones that don't return.

It's called a Kafkatrap, for future reference.
"You're a Marxist!"
"No I'm not. "
"Marxists always lie!"
Replace Marxist with witch, Huguenot, Protestant, feminist, anti-feminist, etc.

Why is THIS charade still going on?

Is there any difference between Mormon ignorance, Amish ignorance, Evangelical ignorance, Catholic ignorance, Protestant ignorance, Jewish ignorance, Islamic ignorance, and Eskimo ignorance?

Of course not. It's all ignorance. It's all a joke.

Until one of them requires modern medical care for a fatal condition. Should they receive all the benefits of modern medical science? If they have contributed nothing to it's development? Or, should Jesus save them?
