Let's talk about Intermarium.

Would it have been a proper counterweight to Russia and Germany?
How would World War II have played out differently if it existed?

You had enough trouble keeping the Yugoslavs together. This unholy conglomerate of a confederation wouldn't last 2 weeks before they sprung apart.
>>
>>895643
If it wasn't fueled by Polish nationalism and literally every other nation wouldn't want to get out of it, then sure.
>>895652
Exactly, you would be creating a Yugoslavia on steroids.

Would it have stopped Hitler and Stalin from invading Poland?
>>
>>895669
It could, it depends on which territories and nations it would incorporate, and whether or not they could work together, among a million other things. Although if it wasn't a militaristic country it would still get overrun by the totalitarian hordes.
>>
Would never have happened.

1 it contained the Balkans and how would you unite them?

2 Poles were actually the dickasses of the day to the Lithuanian and Ukrainians

Only Russia (preferably, Soviet) would've had a lick of chance to keep all this mess together.

Poles were too weak and too nationalist (and too delusional) to make it work in 20th century.

Google "Visegrad Group"
Thank me later.

Yeah this. This was basically pidsulki's imperialistic premature wet dream of creating some kind of "greater polish" sphere of influence.

Don't forget that Poland actually attacked every single one of its neighbours shortly after Germany created that state during WW1 and when the war was over.

You can't expect countries whose minorities you're slaughtering to cooperate with you and do a free trade/politically united zone like nothing happened. The poles have always been quite arrogant in this regard, dubbing themselves "christ of europe" whilst actually being the satan of europe/architects of its downfall in many ways.

IT would only work as an alliance system like nato and even then it would cause the Polish controlled a bunch of non polish land

Would have had a slim chance if the nations had purely focused on defending against the soviet threat, but seeing that Poland also wanted to go against the Germans and pretty much everyone else it would have fallen apart quite quickly.

Nifty idea non the less.
>>
>>895909
Not really true. Poland never went to war with Latvia.

This
The Poles wanted Hegemony In Eastern Europe the same way the Germans and Russians did, they were simply weaker
>>

As cool as Intermarium was, this is a much better way to go along with it
>no Polish nationalist undertones
>not overextending yourself to the Balkans - keeping it local
>reaping EU benefits while defending your interests within

yes, a lot of the new members are not as rich as their western counterparts, but the size and numbers of these states makes a proper counterweight to the Franco-German vision of Europe
Visegrad is leading the way in making regional blocs, but I think the Baltics should do the same

Croatia, under current non-liberal leadership (especially the president) is actually leaning over to join. And the V4 Group discussed with Serbia and Montenegro on the gun law that they want to change, going against plans of western part of EU.
