I like getting economically subjugated, genocided and having my family raped as well. A shame it can only happen so much before a nation doesnt exist anymore.
my favorite tactic in total war

Wtf did the attackers hope to accomplish? Even if the beat the Trojans outside the walls (Unlikely, seeing as how they said "Fuck it, who needs formations?"), they don't have any rams, ladders, or other siege engines to breach the walls.

Hollywood historical accuracy man, it's that simple.

I can just imagine a police captain standing in the back with a snail hat and feather fan talking about opening the Heaven gate of his formation and trapping rioters trying to escape through the Earth and Life gates.

That particular video is probably police training, but it is true that riot police do use the phalanx/testudo to this day. It's very effective against unarmed or crudely-armed mobs which don't have a formation. Pic related is from the riots in Ukraine that preceded the Russian invasion.

That's about as close as I can come considering what I'm working with here Just pretend the lines are straight. The loose infantry in the center is designed to be able to arc backwards and forwards as necessary.
And there are supposed to be more ranged troops than what its implying, but I'm working with limited space here. Cavalry's relatively low because its based on a pre-stirrup formation.
>>890788
why not just lie on the grass and stab them in the legs? not like they can see you.
>>898277
Why don't you just use paint
>>898359
It was for missile weapons during sieges, not during melee combat. They didnt do that ever in a field, let alone hand to hand fighting. (No they didnt use it in the Battle of Carrhae thats a myth read the fucking sources you horse-archerboos)
>>890789
A classic
>>897594
>"Dude you gotta like, flank them!"
is there any other way to figth tactically?, i mean when you only have 2 dimension to work with the only way you can get a advantage is by getting behind the enemy
i mean it beats the hell out of most european tactics wich where basically run at the enemy screaming
(aka barbarian tactics)
also its not so much about the concept of flanking as actually pulling of a flanking manvouer
guess

Phalanx?

>>900728
Yes Roman soldiers went to the back of the formation after some fighting for instance, so nobody would get too tired. You can try to ram through weak point. Also keep in mind it's never uniform and same type of combatants against each other. You have skirmishers, archers, light infantry, heavy infantry. Infantry that can pin others down, infantry that can make casualties fast etc.
