I've been listening to a podcast and reading about the English Civil War recently.
It's pretty entertaining. You have Catholics, crypto Catholics, Anglicans, Puritans, Presbyterians, tons of batshit protestants sects, each one crazier than the next, from nudists to zionists to guys who wanted a theocracy, proto-socialists, proto-communists, all allying then backstabbing each other while trying to gain power.
But the best part is that most of the people I'm reading or hearing about, leaders, politicians or military commanders, seem basically utterly incompetent.
If you haven't read about it already, you definitely should. But anyway /his/, do you know of other historical events like this, where learning about it just makes you wonder how the hell did they get anything done ?

The podcast I'm listening to is Mike Duncan's "Revolutions", the first 20 or so episodes are on the English Civil War. It's pretty good. You can find it on iTunes, or here:

"After his revelation, Thomas Totney assumed the prophetic name TheaurauJohn Tany. Because he had a speech impediment he may have dropped the consonant. In addition, he appropriated the coat of arms azure, three bars argent surmounted by the crest a hind’s head erased, gules, ducally gorged, or. This device, borne by Sir John de Tany of Essex during the reign of Edward I, appears on several of his works. Then he was arrested, and excommunicated. He changed his name to "Theauroam Tannijahhh, King of the seven Nations, and Captain General under my Master Jehovah, and High-Priest and Leader of the Peoples unto HIERUSALEM".
Then he did this:

And then did a one-man assault on the Parliement, where he was quickly disarmed before anyone was hurt. And one his disciple started a few fires in London.
