Why do all the relief portraits and drawings or Akhenaten and his family look so weird?

It's almost like they don't look human, but some bizarre, alien like creatures?

Did everyone hate Akhenaten so much so it was their way to get back at him by portraying him as some fucked up Cthulhu creature or what?

Possibly an artistic convention in order to make them look otherworldly and thus in close connection to Aten.

She had big butt and boobs, and no beard, surely it is not Akhenaten, but a woman.

Yes, Akhenaten had a beard.

Is Akhematen had hermaphrodite gender?

How is this any different than the other Egyptian drawings?

There is actually lot of variation in Egyptian "drawings" once you know where to look. For example, the types of relief.

Egyptian art was usually either completely idealized or it was somewhat realistic and individualistic but still pretty idealized.

On the other hand Akhenaten's stuff makes him look deformed, especially the stuff from later in his reign. I'm guessing he probably was a bit inbred, but the art exaggerated and emphasizes his deformities. That said, not all of it was like that and much of Egypt's best art was produced under his and Tutankhamen's reign (the Amarna period), including the bust of Nefertiti.

>>844240
I was under the impression that literally nothing of significance was produced under Tutankhamun's reign.

He didn't do much himself, but the Amarna period and it's art still continued somewhat under his reign.

There's disagreement though over how much was actually produced for him and how much was produced for his father but ended up being tossed into his tomb, so you might be right, but I think it's unrealistic to imagine all artistic production would come to a halt just because the ruler changed. Keep in mind there was also plenty of art produced for patrons other than the pharaoh as well.

>During puberty, the physical traits of the syndrome become more evident; because these boys do not produce as much testosterone as other boys, they have a less muscular body, less facial and body hair, and broader hips. As teens, XXY males may develop breast tissue[13] and also have weaker bones, and a lower energy level than other males.[12]
>>

I guess the artists were into that particular style, or he himself favorited it and was a patron to the sculptors who would depict him like that.

>>844613
A Klinefelter wouldn't have had the tech needed to reproduce, by the way. Did he have any heirs?
>>

For a pharaoh to allow to be portraited like that, with defects and all, tells us of his great humility, possibly stemming from his great piety and faith.

He must have been a very nice (and naive as well) dude.

Wow, it's almost like the civilization lasted for two thousand years or something.

This and nothing else.

Tut also has signs of the disorder, because his father and mother were brother and sister (according to Hawass so take that as you will). Inbreeding was common for all Egyptian royalty so if that was the only cause, this style would've showed up long before the New Kingdom period.

There's exceptions to everything in life.

You guys ever heard the myth from Spain about a king who had a lisp so he made his entire court speak Spanish with one, and now the entire country pronounces with a lisp?

That's about what this Amarna thing is. It's thought to be an artistic style brought into fashion everywhere to disguise the pharaohs own deformities.

>not knowing pharaohs wore false beards
>>
>>847308
Holy shit, they did?

Why?
>>
>>848933
Just a part of the pageantry of kingship and religious tradition. Upper-class Egyptian society, including the pharaoh, was for the most part clean-shaven, but Osiris was generally depicted with a beard of the same style the pharaohs wore, and the pharaohs' ceremonial (false) beards reflected their symbolic associations with Osiris. The beards were generally passed down to the next pharaoh, and even the female pharaohs wore them (see statues of Hatshepsut).
