I'll start.
>Ardent opponent of crown
>Become a power hungry cunt/think of self as a god
>Be against public executions,
>Start calling for more "necessary" public executions
>get executed
>be amazing orator
>shoot self in jaw, can't utter a single word before getting decapitated
My personal favorite irony in history: triple whammy. Robespierre = mega hypocrite faggot.
Post your goodies, don't disappoint me /his/.
Robespierre saved France.
>>832463
And yet, still ironic as fuck.
>>832463
That's debatable.
Tell me again why Napoleon isn't your hero?
no freedom for the enemies of freedom
Freed slaves enslaving native africans.

No need to explain

>hijacks a republic and crowns himself emperor for life
>he was emperor for the rest of his life
Be careful what you wish for
>Ardent opponent of crown
False until it became obvious that Louis XVI was working against the new government, and you can't really blame Robespierre for changing his mind.
>Become a power hungry cunt/think of self as a god
False. He had no more power than anyone on the Committee of Public Safety. He even took figurative step-downs when his popularity became too much because he didn't want people lifting him above other members. If he was all powerful, people like Carrier would have been tried and executed on the spot, rather than getting protected by other CPS members for his brutal crimes. He did not come up with or design the Cult of the Supreme Being or the subsequent Festival of the Supreme Being, which was not about making Robespierre or anyone a god, but celebrating a new republican style of monotheistic religion based on brotherhood and the interest of public citizenship, he was just the one to submit it for proposal to the Committee.
>shoot self in jaw, can't utter a single word before getting decapitated
Debatable. Some eyewitnesses say he was shot. It is his enemies, who say he tried to kill himself and branded him a coward for it.
Most things people believe about Robespierre (and the Cult of the Supreme Being which is blatantly ridiculous because you can read the papers that define the proposed religion) are based on books or documentaries which get almost all their facts from Robespierre's enemies. Yet for some reason no one stops and says: hey wait, that's not the most unbiased source of information, that's not the best way to interpret something. It's really bizarre. It would be like writing a biography about Marie Antoinette and using the pornographic and/or violent libelles against her as sources.
I don't even like Robespierre and I have to defend him.
>get placed in power by the American army
>spend the rest of your life railing against America harder than most communists because you think they have too much influence over your country
this probably applies to more than one person, guess the non-Islamic one
>declare yourself the true leader of the Christian Church and the defender of the Christian faith due to the technicality that since the Imperial capital changed from Rome to Constantinople, it is the latter that has primacy
>proceed to antagonize the Papacy and Latins for most of the Middle Ages
>ends up have to literally sell off your musty old relics and your meaningless (but cool-sounding) titles to the Papacy and Catholic monarchies in the 15th century after your entire empire has fallen to muzzies and in-fighting
Reads like poetry. You got to love those Byzantines.
>>832825
Julius Caesar never called himself emperor lad, he called himself dictator. Augustus was the first emperor.
>>832463
Robespierre literally did nothing wrong.
>>833090
Augustus was first Princeps, not simply Imperator
>>833049
Gimme' good sources of all that information you just mentioned about him, and I'll fuck off - do more research before I open my mouth again.
Also, if he was such a swell guy, why was he so disliked (even by people close to him)? Why was he so paranoid? Why so dead?
>>832463
Saved from what?
>>833049
>He had no more power than anyone on the Committee of Public Safety
fucking kek
>>833344
Are you kidding? From themselves.
