I'm curious about our community's origins.

I had a kick posting on the shit boards for a while, and just noticed this one when I was trying to find something that wasn't just a slurry of shitposting.
It's pretty comfortable. A lot of people who really know their shit, a lot of people who don't but genuinely enjoy learning and discussion. It's kind of like /lit/ but less unabashedly elitist.
Out of those boards, /int/ is my most visited though.
I'm /k/ at my core, but I switched from /pol/ to here
/v/ here

/co/mrade who got bored one day
Use to go to /g/. But got bored of all the /v/-people. Liked history, so I came here. Now /pol/ is annoying, but at least they're just acting in comparison to /v/.
It was a long road, and only one place wouldn't be correct.
My first exposure to history and philosophical thought was actually /tg/. I went there because I thought I'd learn to play D&D with my older cousins, found something that defied my expectations. Not a bunch of nerds arguing over childrens' stories but instead a bunch of nerds arguing over meanings and motivations of actions using historical stuff as examples. /tg/ eventually went to shit after a nazi mod stamped out all this wonderful conversation in the name of keeping the board pure, which actually managed to kill off most of the creative and interesting fellows.
Visited KC to learn more about /int/ in general rather than just reading history books. Loved it because a book only tells the side of one author's point of view, while the internet you can hear details and viewpoints of literally anyone, and specifically those who lived through an event or in the same location. A cliche would be asking what a German guy thought of his ancestors fighting in a war only to have a different viewpoint from seeing the enemy as a monster to be destroyed. Eventually, you find out people are a hell of a lot more similar than not. KC /int/ sort of fell by the wayside after the community became more and more insular (In the sense that KC /int/'s board members began to think and act a single way), so I moved on to other places.
Sat in /k/, /pol/, and a million other places, all of which had snippets of interesting topics once in a blue moon. Thankfully, /his/ was finally created which encompassed full time what I was looking for.

I was in /pol/ when we had /history/ threads before there was a board for it. We would have true art threads, listen to classical music, play Paradox games, and make the pages of whatever history book we were currently reading stick together. Good times. /history/ threads on /pol/ were a lot better than /his/, honestly.

/pol/ and /tg/ were my two main boards before /his/ came along.
But I swear, I'm not a gibbering idiot, I can carry along conversations. I'm usually on WW2 threads, because that's my main interest and /pol/ used to be the board that occasionally had discussions on it.
/b/ was the first board I frequented, but I got bored of shitposting and cancer threads so I moved to /pol/. There was no respite in the shitposting, so here I am.

From lurking at /b/ to learning at /fit/. Made some trips to /gd/ to ask for advice and checked out /vg/ regularly for information about certain games. I then quit lifting, went to /pol/. Resided there for a while, but noticed I needed something else to fill my gaps. I then checked out /lit/ and started reading about history. Then some Chinese version of moot decided it was time for a history board and here I am.
RIP Gook and Osprey dumps
I'm from /co/. I really enjoyed the large vast intercnnected setting of comic worlds with large history and how while reading one story knowing there were other stories elsewhere in the setting I could go read too and even overlap.
Then I learned history provides the exact same experience of hearing a story knowing there are many others happening that can overlap too.
I then learned history has almost as many retcons as comics.

/tg/ and history go together like peas and carrots.
You've got DMs trying to research their new medieval-fantasy setting, you've got roleplayers trying to idealize their new characters, you've got writers, artists, amateur cartographers, sometimes even the musician or two.
It really helps to bring a setting to life if you've done enough research to appreciate the history behind your world building.
We also get a lot of /k/ommandos who help to provide insightful relevancy regarding firearms, the wilderness, and sometimes they'll even talk about pre-gunpowder weaponry.
Good stuff, anons. Good stuff.

Askhistorians ruined discussing history on reddit because now everyone expects 500 words and if they disagree they start shouting SOURCE!??!
Also int.
>>716271
/tg/ was the /his/ board until the fucking nazi mods decided that X QUEST and <INSERT TRADITIONAL GAME> were the only things you could do.
/tg/ used to have wonderfully bizarre conversations started by anything that could lead to various and random other discussion, because especially in the early days when being a "nerd" was for you know "nerds" most fa/tg/uys were at least somewhat intelligent and interested in all sorts historical/philosophical discussions. Now anything bordering on off topic get's banhammered.
(Hell /tg/ wouldn't exist if nerds didn't want to play out historical battles.)
