Sounds like a shit school. In my US history class we spent the entire unit on the civil war essentially debating whether it was about slavery or not. It was super fun and engaging. Even though our cumulative answer was "maybe, we learned a ton.

The teacher was a very big civil war guy, loved war, hardcore conservative. One day, I can't recall what set him off, but he used to shout a lot, this particular day, he became so enraged, that he fucking went into cardiac arrest.

I'm not one to brag, especially over something as insignificant as an 8th grade history project, but I won't lie, I'm still proud of what I pulled off that day.

I was once told by my black 7th grade science teacher that if my Black History month project was late, she would report me to the principal for being racist.
I also told her the guy didn't even look black. (He did something first, like heart surgery or something).

My teaher had us do debates in my junior year. I got put into the "Should South Carolina secede from the US" debate. It was 2 people arguing for it and 2 arguing against it. The teacher said it was the best debate he's seen in years. Ended up losing because a kid on the other side basically ignored our question and we ran out of time during cross-examination.

He said it was one of the best pieces he'd ever read and said he'd never given a grade so high to someone in my age range before so I guess I managed to turn my rocky start around.

My AP Gov teacher was pretty cool and pretty weird at the same time. First was a paratrooper in Vietnam, then worked for the IRS and he climbed up the ranks to a regional director. After he retired he became a high-school soccer coach and only taught because you have to be a teacher to coach in my old county. Occasionally he would randomly go into really dark and depressing life stories like how his dad died and what he inherited, or how in college students would get drafted for nam and go into fits of rage, suicidal or drunk in the dorm hallways. He also sat outside our AP testing room and played the bongos and harmonica. Once a fight broke out between some kids in the hallways which he tried to break up but ended up getting thrown to the ground. The picture of him on the ground got famous in the school and he was photo shopped onto everything to the point where other teachers were making jokes about him.
