Tell me about how Satan is understood in Christianity. I know that like God, he's a completely abstract entity. I think I heard somewhere his presence can be everywhere. So is he privy to everyone's thoughts at all times?

What you should know about Satan, is that he is not evil, as in pure evil or whatever you might think.. briefly put, he's an angel who got jelaous when god created us and started sinning, then he disagreed with God, did a few bad things to us and he was sent to Hell for all eternity. Everything outside of the human domain must not be treated within these categories. So there is nothing like a god or satan, nor is can they be good or evil. Everything good or evil is inside of us humans and we made up such things like a god or a satan to not have to reflect ourselves. So satan in christianity is just the counterpart of god to reflect the whole human spectrum of action and to have someone to blame for the side of humans which is comoonly refered to as "bad".

The devil, lucifer and the satan are three separate characters. Shit, satan isn't even a name but a title given to the angel whose job it is to accuse mankind. Lucifer is an angel or Elohim and the devil is a Pan-like trickster who first showed up in stage plays.
