Why is it that most threads that clog /his/ are

>You get to go back in time and have sex with one historical figure of your choosing. Who do you pick?

>Was Jesus a buddhist?

>American stuff

Meanwhile quality threads like

>Karl Marx thread

>/his/ maps

>Medieval art thread

And other consistent topics of discussion are ignored.

Should i stick around? Or is /his/ just /b/ with dates?

This board's expertise on history is roughly on the level of Yahoo answers, a bit lower, probably, actually.

>karl marx
>quality

pick one

Did you expect anything else?
I called this all the way back on /q/ and nobody listened to me then. They never listen until it's too late.
>>

You're on 4chan. Shitposting is to be expected.

I love how this board has been here for literally 2 days and we already have people complaining about shitposting.
>>
There are a lot of reasons. For one thing, every pleb and their brother will come here to shitpost their entry-level knowledge and interpretation of events based on their political perspective. I've seen like 4 reasonable discussions on historiography all day, although I must qualify this by saying that the amount of sourcing going on (even if done poorly) has been nice. The board is too new for all of the actual humanitiesfags to have found it yet.

Also, it's a new board, so everyone is here to take a look (and unlike sports, or automobiles, or weapons, history is a subject that everyone feels qualified to talk about even when they aren't). So we get the initial flood of shitposts. With time, it should shape up a bit.

Third, we have /pol/ and anti-/pol/ factions simultaneously raiding to claim the board. I'll admit I regularly post on /pol/, but I'm here for historical discussion and not shilling for my viewpoint. Hopefully the same will apply to all of the posters who actually stick around. The ban on <25 year old topics may help with this, since we'll get less political shitposting.

Finally, this is 4chan. So there's a bit of "lowest common denominator" and a bit of "Australians are awake now" mixed together. We will always have shitposts. But with time board culture might shape up so that (aside from joke posts) we will mostly have quality.

tl;dr give it some time, anon

That was an example

There's a thread about The Fate of Empires. It doesn't even have 10 replies even if the book itself is a must-read for any history enthusiast. Or Mike Duncan's podcast

Seriously, it's like this isn't even a history board.
>>
>>60393
It's full of it.
/lit/ should not have been decided because the userbase wasn't full of people from all over the place.
>>
>>60412
So much this.
>>
your mom bitch
>>
>/his/ was a mistake
moot
>>
>Daily Karl Marx threads
>Crowded with memesters
>Turn into petty arguments
>Quality

I really don't know how is this shit even allowed here, since generals are banned.

>>60412
Most of the humanities fags are on /lit/

>Karl Marx thread
fuck off with your marxist bullshit.
marx threads should be an op and a single post telling your commie ass to fucking off yourself.
>>
>>65209
oh and i get that marx was a historical figure but he is a political figure and just like hitler or communism or nation socialism it should be discussed on /pol/.

just because /pol/ hates marx doesn't mean that you can shitpost about politics on the history board.

Be selective and post quality posts to improve the standard of /his/. Also, don't reply to blatant shitposts because they will just keep shitposting if someone actually responds to them.
