As a fellow Chilean, what do you think about Fort Benning and how basically fucked up latinoamerica in general?
the USA was really, really, really worried the soviets were closely collaborating with workers parties and agitators across LA. They threw money, resources and other forms of assistance at any group with even vaguely similar goals of keeping socialists and communists out of LA. What groups might worry about the rising political power of democratic socialists? Well that's an easy question. Big Business and the rich, entrenched, ruling class. Maybe even some neo-fascists. So while the USA was certainly far too overeager and paranoid, they acted with at the very least tacit approval of other elements of society.
Why is the gdp of latin america so shit? It has clay, capitalism, cheap labor, no civil wars, et cetera. How come its still poor?

unstable governments, coups, military dictatorships can fuck up a country. Just one of these can put a country 20 years behind traditional Western European Democracies. Several in a row only exacerbates this.

it takes time and it sounds silly but it's hard to know how to be a peaceful, functioning democracy when you haven't been one in 30 years

>capitalism
Anon. In my country it was ok to "pay" workers with land use until the 60s. Farmhands would literally be sold alongside any land, since they had 0 mobility. We were basically a feudal aristocracy for most of our history,
>no civil wars
pffft. Are you genuinely this ignorant? Most Latin American countries have been in periods of civil wars far longer than they have been in periods of wars with other countries.
