Is that armor legit? Looks like something out of RPG game. Also weird armors and uniforms thread.
Whoever designed this intended for their enemies to die of laughter
I shall sing you the song of my people

During tournaments lavish armours full of shinny garments were wore to show how rich and awesome you were while performing huge LARPs to show how rich and powerfull the guy organizing the party was.
armour "alla antiqua".
pretty much made up to look "roman" or "classical".
Rather fashionable at that date for commanders, princes etc to effectively ape the style of Imperial Rome. only no-one really knew quite what imperial rome was like.
The Negroli armours are even more over the top and fantastic than that picture.

You are now aware they they even engraved stubble around the mouth and chin.
>>537434
I'm not even sure if the thing they are holding is a shield or some kind of oversized trinket to show off they can waste their money.
>>537466
That one looks legit swag.

That's what the 5th90th yiff-detatchment of the furry armed forces will wear when their war begins against the faustian otherkin ideologies.

That's some +5 agility right there.
I kinda have this secret fantasy of owning old armour which has belonged to someone important.
>>537434
it's funny how you can see traces of that all the way to the 20th century cinema, with all legionaries wearing capes and muscular, form fitting vests.
also guy on the right is a total fuccboi

There's a great exhibition on these at the British Museum, some of them are actually pretty neat. While they usually look incredibly stupid, some of the traditions surrounding them are very very interesting. Usually they would discard them immediately after use for symbolic reasons.

IIRC that's a drawing of a mercenary on parade. If you were rich enough to afford it you would have a set of ornate parade armor that you would wear in order to look badass before the public. Typically you'd change to something more practical before going to the fight, but some battle armor was pretty fancy as well.
>>538428
I don't think they look stupid, I think they look terrifying.
I remember I saw a video of one with a huge clay dong that would squirt out water. You don't want that shit knocking on your door at night.
>>538539
Apparently some of them are hardened just like regular armour so even decorative pieces may have been worn into battle.
>>538543
They're very ungainly to walk around in, and in full light they look pretty silly to someone who isn't accustomed to their cultural practices.
But if a guy dressed in one smashed down my door screaming and gesticulating I would definitely shit myself.
>>538591
Oh, sure enough.
But the fact that they're spiritual policemen who patrol the streets at night and are supposed to be possessed by devils while doing it...

Well, until he trips over the hem and blunders into the telephone table.

Reminds me of the Cainhurst armor from Bloodborne.

them italians had that world of ivalice shit going on

Hate to disappoint, but that's not the armor one would wear into hell, or anywhere outside a controlled environment like a parade for that matter.

Not necessarily armor, but a bizarre episode in Chinese history was the emergence of the Tigermen.
The Tigermen were pretty much light infantry tasked to do skirmishing roles during the 1700's Qing Chinese army. They fought in the south vs. tribal entities down there. They *literally* wore tiger fursuity costumes as it supposedly scared the crap out of the Southern Tribesmen.
Which was true apparently because the military formation lasted up until the Opium wars. 140 years worth of existing.
Here's a lelsome depiction in Miniature.

Here's a period depiction from an Edo-Period Japanese Encyclopedia about China.
