STEMlord here. What's with the STEM vs humanities dichotomy that I find on here and /sci/?

1) They're not mutually exclusive, and

2) The conflict seems entirely manufactured. The truth is that none of us are going to be making 300k/yr starting unless we were born rich anyway.
>>
Part of the inter-university competition for resources.

Each one has to argue that it's 'more useful' to humanity/society, in order to get the big bucks.

But, at the end of the day, we'll all agree that it's those b-school faggots we really dislike.

Hey, I work in a business school. We're basically just an arts faculty hiding behind a corrupt curriculum forced upon us.

Perhaps. But the faculty is paid so much more than anything a lit/hum prof could hope to make
>>
Because math gives you acces to truth, not thinking real hard about semantics.

math is not truth
>>
>>510317
Part of it might be imported from leddit, where STEM is (was?) worshipped as being the intellectually superior, logical choice much like how they treat atheism.
>>
>>510317
Everyone should understand that it's just harmless bants. There are some 18-21 year olds who really internalize it, but just inform them that it's just banter or move on.
>>
It's not manufactured at all, unless you think trying to make good money is manufactured?

Think about it. Who is a woman more likely to marry? A guy who has a Master's in philosophy that is a teacher at high school, or a guy who is a CompSci master and earns 100k a year?

It seems pretty obvious, and society will always structure itself around what kind of mate a woman wants.
>>
>>510317
Humanities in university is retarded indoctrination shit while STEM is actually useful to society. Humanities are meant to be studied in private, not having some cuck teach you how to think and what opinions to hold
>>
>>510504
>caring what women want

Betacuck detected. If you're not a total autist you can get a girl no matter what income bracket youre in
>>
>>510317
Yeah i don't understand it either. CS student here. Can't I just be in STEM field while appreciating history?
>>
>>510508
OP here. I took a lot of humanities courses for fun while I was studying chemistry as my major (once you're full time tuition doesn't go up so fuck off if you don't like it), and I wasn't indoctrinated at all.

It is more truth than your average frenchi deconstructivist method.
>>
>>510510
>If you're not a total autist you can get a girl no matter what income bracket youre in
While what you say is true, if you wish to marry a woman who is both attractive and well educated AND not get cheated on because you're a shithead, you probably should aim a little bit higher than burger flipper.
>>
Great marketing, especially when you autists are being autistic about it.
>>
>>510510
>If you're not a total autist you can get a girl no matter what income bracket youre in

But that's not true and you know it.

Learn to stop believing in Hollywood fantasies about love before you call me a beta cuck you fucking fag.
>>

Bruh, i have a shit job making <$50k a year and im happily married. Go outside once in awhile
>>
All of the aimless plebs choose a humanities or lib arts degree as the easy way through college and so that muddles up the purity of their field

I'm sure some of you are smart but Philosophy is literally the "I'm scared of math but I want to do a major that makes me sound intelligent" degree

Create categories and some people will obsessively promote whichever one they happen to be in. Ignore these people, categories don't matter, do your best to be good at everything.

No need to project, kiddo. Just because you've never got your dick wet doesnt mean other people here havent

I am disabled, autistic, and making less than $1,000 a year.

You can get a girl no matter what income bracket you're in, and I'm engaged.

For fucks sake, do you think no one is getting laid in Africa?
>>
>>510579
>I am disabled, autistic, and making less than $1,000 a year.

Do you expect people do believe this bullshit?
>>
>>510591

I have down's syndrom, Crohn's disease, need someone to put my clothes on me every morning, make $-20,000 per year, and obsessively eat spaghetti-os for every meal, and I'm happily married for 8 years

with that attitude, you are more likely to be said duke than getting laid.

>>
>>510317
It's just the autistic pissing contest that a lot of uni kiddies get sucked in to, base tribalism.

On the x100k starting meme, I see it most from engineers, mostly boring streams like civil & structural, trying to justify their otherwise dull and meaningless choice with "muh starting salary".
>>
>>510572
what difference does that make when it comes to truth?
>>
>>510485
UTILITY MOTHERFUCKER!

DO YOU SPEAK IT?
>>
>>510317

It's really completely /sci/'s fault and the technicians living there.

You can't post social sciences on /sci/ without everyone sperging out and drown you in shitposting. Meanwhile you can sort of talk about social sciences here despite this not even strictly being a board for social sciences.

I mean how fucked up isn't that?
>>
>>510317
>STEMlord here

>>
>>510317
Why be rich?
Will that make you happy?
The reason why stem and humanities don't correspond that much is because of the departmentilasation of universitys
>>
>>511028
Seems to me like it's mostly the math/physics guys sperging out over methodology.
>>
>>510317
Honestly the argument in itself is harmful to things.
Sciences can benefit greatly from philosophy, and history could benefit greatly from scientific findings. Yet they don't work with each other most of the time.
>>
>>510317
You can't easily have history as your minor with stem major so you rat on it
