Good movie or cringe worthy, from a historical point of view?
>>
It's not as bad and cringe-worthy as the likes of Gladiator or Braveheart or something along those lines, but it is pretty in-accurate historically.

Mel Gibson did nothing wrong.

Its an excuse to get tom cruise in an asian action movie. Nothing more.
>>
America hate France anyway.
>>
>>493385

BOTH.

It's one of the few of this genre movies where both sides teach each other, rather than it being 'white guy is better than any Asian at samurai' or 'ancient ways teach modern fool the better way to live' nonsense'.

this

it's also an interesting depiction of PTSD

the battle at the end of the film actually happened that way in real life too, which is crazy

Cringe historically.
>Samurai armor wearing past 1700's.
>Samurai that refused to use guns.
>People caring shit about America's military ""expertise"" when Asian cunts were in a rush about asking for Prussia/Germany or French Military advisors,

The only thing nips wanted from the Americans at the time were Gatling guns and cheap as shit decommissioned Confederate ships.

America appropriating French history

This is post-Meiji Restoration though, I don't find it hard to believe that samurai would bring the armor out just for symbolism.

Kinda rusty on the subject, but I'm pretty sure Japan consulted America as well as Prussia and France and anybody else they could contact from the West. But yes, they did develop a preference for Prussia.

Can't argue about the "no guns" thing though for samurai, they totally would've shouldered a rifle.

It glorifys the samurai, and makes them out the be the good guys. But other than that it's historically passable.

>dances with wolves: weeb edition

Or The Patriot.
>>

>'white guy is better than any Asian at samurai'

But that's the entire film.
>>
>>493393
But Braveheart was a good movie. Last Samurai wasn't.
>>
>>493414
Except the Japanese were plenty modern at that point. The movie made the samurai out to be ancient fools who needed to be enlightened by a white guy
