Communism is rule by artists and intellectuals, so artists and intellectuals become communist out of self-interest.
It's basically just survival bias. The music pieces popularized to begin with were only the ones good enough. Then only those good enough to be worth saving to this day are the ones still around. Why save shit that doesn't hold up anymore?
It's just the same as any historical music. It wasn't better in the 80's or 70's or whatever. It's been through a filtering process and you're left with only the stuff worth listening to.
