>>
>>471021
Well, then by your logic everyone should go into humanities, so you can "make a buck" as a self-help writer. Why did you get that fancy STEM degree again?
>>
>>471027
Because you're throwing your hat into the mediocrity ring with all the other people who majored in some social study bullshit and are competing for the same 8 job openings where as STEM majors get recruited instantly if they're any good.
Unless you have ground breaking ideas that will leave a lasting impact on your field you should try to do something better.
>>
>>471057
>by your logic
How so?
I disagree with your naive claim that "oh no nobody cares about spirituality!"
People do care, very much. I doubt popular science magazines sell more than all that feelgood crap.
>>
>>471058
>I live in fantasyland, where everyone gets a humanities degree
Literally no one is majoring in social sciences m8. I'm literally the only guy in my graduation class that didn't major in a STEM field. Everybody is getting engineering/maths/economics degrees.

I like working with people, and my major allows me to do that, in combination with my hobby. Why would I want to get into something "better"?
>>
Any translator here?
>>
>>471064
Well, I doubt that magazines on theology (or sociology or anthropology) would sell better than the same feelgood crap. Which is just that. Feelgood crap. Mental health and, believe it or not, spirituality are not always enjoyable, sometimes even painful. How would you feel if somebody told you that the way you live is not good for you or those around you? People wouldn't expose themselves to this in such a light-hearted manner if self-help books wouldn't tell them just exactly what they want to hear.

You're putting theology (and by extension, all humanities) on one level with scammy self-help books. Don't do that, please.
>>
>>471072
I cant comment on the situation at your university but in the majority of american universities the stem majors are a minority.
>>
>>471064
Well, one of your intial arguments was that humanity degrees won't ever get you a job and should just be practiced as hobbies. But if these people could make loads money by selling self-help books, why aren't more people doing it?

Journalism. From the best university for it in my country, wasn't easy to get in.

I graduated in 2006 and got a job... But I had realized (while I was in university) that most journalists are actually unbearable people for a number of reasons. The egos involved, the back-stabbing, the alcoholism... it's a dying industry, pay is meh and hours are long, job security is non-existent. It's not about how skilled or intelligent you are, it's all about whose ass you kiss and who you're willing to step over to get ahead.

It's just not a world I wanted to be in anymore. After two years working at a newspaper, I quit, and then travelled a lot for the next 3ish years.

Then I did my M.Ed, but wanted to work teaching adults. Now I teach academic writing to university students (mostly STEM as its more of a technical university), and I also do proof-reading and such for foreign professors and students.
>>

I wouldn't know. But if that's true, it says more about them than it does the course.

But for the sake of argument, it would depend on the text I think. I've only been studying for 6 months, and I can read some things, like the plays of Aristophanes without much difficulty, but if I try to read something like Thucydides, I need a dictionary without a doubt.

Now who's being naïve? No seriously, is there "anyone" who can in fact be naïve?

Geology. Full job market, but at least it's not as saturated as engineering. More free time to shitpost on 4chan too

History. The course is generally focused on European and Colonial history from the Early Modern period onwards.

English literature (focus on PoMo and really interested in the developing contemporaneity/metamodernism etc movement) and Philosophy double major. My school also offers a Russian and Eastern European studies certificate which I'll be hopefully getting as well.

Don't worry about it. Mechanical engineers can get jobs everywhere because we're the jack of all engineering trades. At least that's what I tell myself every night.

The thing about private schools, both from the elementary to university levels, is that you make better connections. It's a rich kids club where you have the opportunity to become friends with kids who already have a successful life guaranteed for them by their parents.

Graduated already but did history with a minor in English. Loved everything but the English part, started out as English major like a faggot and dropped out of that after getting a 2 hour lecture on why Paradise Lost is literally about Eve NOT being envious of Adams penis.

No, really.

Worst part was: this was at Canadian military university. Nowhere is safe from the SJW menace. Now at least I get to be employed as le ebin welfare Queen as an army officer but that was bullshit. I just wanted to study Homer and Shakespeare and Nabokov and shit not learn to check my privilege. At the end of it I had enough English credits to get the minor without trying but trash department/10 history was GOAT

I don't think you understand what qualia is if you're having trouble understand it. Don't you see colours?

Ha, you have state funded religion in Germany. Until your religion can stand on its own two feet and actively engage in the religious economy without getting help from your government, then you are weak.
