And say that Ptolemy is the answer.

Objectively Ptolemy.

Cucked the richest region in the ancient world out of their own language

Ptolemy by far.

>out of their own language

Greek never became the majority language in Egypt. There's a reason for the coptic church not using greek.
>>
Selucids were the most military interesting; their armies were so diverse, smashing together Alexander's tactics with Hellenic, Iranian and even Indian style troops.

Bactrians were the most culturally interesting; God it would have been awesome if they survived as an independent state for a few more centuries: their blending together of Indian, Chinese and Hellenic cultures was awesome. They were a superb bridge between European and Far East culture that got smashed by steppe nomads.

A Bactria that survived into the 3rd and 4th centuries and came into contact with the first Christian missionaries would have been very very interesting to see develop, as many of the Bactrians had syncretised Greek polytheism with elements of Buddhism.

Whatever theology they'd have come up by combining all those elements would have been pretty interesting.

It became the majority in the important parts, like Alexandria, and outside of that most people would have spoken Coptic and Greek, except for the bumfuck tribes out in places nobody ever visited. It was the Abbasids that allowed Semitic languages to come back

>seleucid military

Wasn't it just a variant of the typical Hellenic army except for their own Indian elephant breeding stock?

Most of their infantry was made up of macedonian style pikemen and later supported by lighter, but still greek, spearmen with javelins (the often mislabeled imitation legionaires).

Their cavalry were companion successors and cataphracts, the cataphracts prob being their only real iranian influenced standing military unit.

The Ptolemies were more interesting IMO. Blending their hellenic heritage with galatian mercenaries, domestic egyptians and their own african elephants.
>>
The one with the biggest tits.
>>
Pyrrhus, although I never figured out why he left Macedonia in the first place. If parralell lives is to be believed, he was a brilliant leader whom the soldiers called the true successor to Alexander, and the soldiers all flocked to him when he came to Macedonia, whereas Lysimachus was just a decent leader who stole half of Macedonia, what made him think he couldn't win?
>>
Pyrrhus was not a diadochos friendos.
>>
Demetrius is underrated, fucking based considering what he did with what he had to work with
>>468189
He fought in the Diadochi wars, and for a time held Macedonia, there are many more Diadochi (successors) than just Seleucus, Antogonos, Lysimachus, Ptolemy and Cassander
>>
>>468197
Ok if it is like that,i thought it was just Alexander's generals.

Greek became a majority in the upper echelons, which came about after Alexander's conquest.

The rest of Egyptian society still spoke a native tongue, and Coptic is a hybrid language.

Its a minor point anyway, because Greek civilization itself is heavily influenced by Ancient Egypt, look up the Seven Sages, the travels of Plato and Plotinus, Herodotus accounts on the comparisons of their respective mythologies, etc... it isn't exactly hidden knowledge. Even the word "hieroglyphs" comes from 'Hieroglyphikos' in Greek, which means "holy words", and the name 'Egypt' comes from 'Aiguptos' in Greek, which comes from 'Hikuptah', or 'the temple of the soul of Ptah', the Ancient Egyptian Demiurge, AKA their universal creator.
>>
The dankest was not a Diadochi, it was the ferking GRECO INDIAN KINGDOMS
>>
>>468047
Do not forget the Seleukid Iranian Hetairoi(?) that were one of two bodyguard units for the king. Concerning Egypt most Galatians were mercenaries and served other masters too while the Egyptians were shit-tier soldiers that would rebell evert chance they got.
>>
>>468149
Pyrrhus was an excellent general but sub-par king. Note that while he was great on the battlefield, unrest generally seemed to follow him wherever he was ruling at the time.

China's best Greek Buddy wasn't Bactria- they were far away- but a Kingdom now only known by its Chinese name: Dayuan in Ferghana. The name is Chinese for "Great Ionians (i.e. Greeks)."

It was led by the city state of Alexandreia Eschate (Literally: "The Furthest Alexandria"). Which used to be under Seleucid. Only became China's friend after the Han Dynasty wrecked it in war in order to procure Ferghana Stallions needed by the Emperor Wu Di of Han to fight the Xiongnu.

>>

They were defined by their excellent stock of elephants, but they also adopted many eastern cavalry tactics and near the end adopted the fighting style of the Roman Legions which they called the Silver Shield Legionnaires
