Fucking hell, first thing that came to mind was Seikilos. Good one OP.
But how do we actually know this is what the ancient music sounded like? Do we have preserved transcripts of the written music, or is it just a guess?
I'm obsessed with this Greek chant, but I can't find any information about the choir.

Plato wrote a lot about musical styles in ancient greece. (thats why today you hear about the different modes, for example: Ionian, Frigian, Dorian, etc...)
About music pieces proper, I'm not sure.
I know that the ancients had some sort of music notation I believe, maybe some excerpts survived?
/r/ing someone else whos knowledgeable about this to answer, I'm also very interested

Fuck thats beautiful. What language is it?
Modes and modal are so fucking cool. A shame they are so unintuitive when applied to standard music theory

I mean, they all have parallel keys and the triads are either major or minor (except for Locrian), but the flatted and sharpened notes and figuring out what mode you are in can be complicated

Agreed. We already established AUC is the only correct form on this board. So anything pre MMCDLIII is acceptable.
