The Old Testament is decent enough as a revord for the Jews, though we have yo treat it like any other "look how great we are" text.
There's some really interesting stuff on how the Exodus fits into history, and the argument over the Jews relationship with the Hyksos.
And the New Testament gives us bits and pieces of what is going on for us to line up what is going on. And a look at like in those parts of the world.
There's historical value, you just need to know how to use it.

Both testaments are very important historical sources retard, even if they are rife with obvious nationalistic bullshit (especially regarding the Jews in the Old Testament). The New Testament is invaluable for informing us of how early Imperial society was e.g. Paul is about to be scourged by a Roman centurion but he tells him that he has Roman citizenship, so the centurion does not do so. It shows the importance of citizenship, that 'foreigners' could have it if they had provided services to Rome, that in the ancient world it was almost impossible to prove anything about yourself so people often took your word for it (lying about citizenship would have you crucified I believe).

Those are the epistles.
The gospels were written by other people though that doesn't make them that great either.
Luke claims to be a contemporary of Paul through Acts but Acts kind of contradicts Paul a fair amount.
