how do you define "overpowered"?
i would say religion before the mosaic distinction (i.e. judaism's novelty that there are real and false gods and that this is cause for enmity) was uncontestably "overpowered" because there were no different types of religion, just different panthea who could and constantly were translated into each other (mesopotamian, greek, egyptian gods etc) so there was no competition to begin with
