It's not "all of a sudden". If anything the comic book is actually on its way out, because their medium is stagnating significantly and only sells to the same insecure crowd of adult babies rather than expanding to broader markets. What is sudden is the explosion of "diversity" in comic-book media, a poor attempt to grow and sell to more people. There's nothing spiritual about it, it's all capitalism.
