Can we have a thread on the most intimidating/scary/ghoulish helms, helmets and facemasks in history?
Stechhelm is obligatory...
And so is samurai helmet, meant to look like a demon. Anyone else?
Conversely...
>>390301
Japanese demons look very cartoony. They're not really scary to anyone but 17th century japanese...
>>390519
>They're not really scary to anyone
I'm guessing the meter long sword spilling your intestines adds to the fear.
i think it's persian, not certain.
another persian.
looks kinda upset, not exactly scary
>>390550
Most of them have a visor that can be lifted, anon. Just look at them a little closer...

It was a gift from Maximilian I, in his likeness, hence the nose. Pre-incest Habsburgs still had bad luck with their facial features.
>>390281
Tell me about this man.
Why does he wear the mask?
One of Maximilian's armors. I'm fairly sure the ram's horns are intended to refer to Jupiter with ram's horns, which would further clarify their presence on this helmet.

Cartoons were pretty fucking dark back in the day. And they had a way for making things like this look pretty terrifying. The timing is also pretty ominous and depressing, since this came out right before WW2 kicked off.
>>392057
What's that from?
>>392072
It's in the title. Cartoon loosely about WW2 in an alternate timeline when it had raged to the point of human extinction. Rather prophetic since the cartoon came out mere months before WW2 actually started.

>>392084
Whoops. Thanks, that's pretty interesting.
>>392091
MGM, the folks that made it, also did a remake of it in 1955. Same message and similar content, but more relevant to the times. Imagine if someone made one relevant to the modern age, where fear and paranoia meets with war profiteering and hatred to bring us to a true 'war to end all worlds'

Horns were often associated with Alexander the Great as he was Zeus/Jupiters son. So horns could also mean: conqueror

I think this smiling helmet is even more terrifying than the actual "evil" ones. Imagine someone wearing this helmet trying to kill you
>>399056
This was basically due to them not figuring out spaced armour yet. They also used to use an ammunition called HESH (High-Explosive Squash Head) that would basically smash a hunk of plastic explosives against the side of the tank to cause massive spalling to kill the crew. This ammunition was phased out by spaced armour.
