Arabs weren't active in that area at the time it was made. I think one theory was that it was actually Jews who migrated beyond Ethiopia and intermarried and blended into the native population.

Mali was so rich in gold that Mansa Musa's pilgrimage to Mecca devalued it for years afterward.

Ethiopia was considered one of the four great civilizations of antiquity by the Greeks, and heavily shaped Arabic culture and the formation of Islam from their campaigns around the peninsula.

Nubia was a major trading partner and enemy to ancient Egypt and actually managed to conquer it for a century.

>four great civilizations of antiquity by the Greeks

The great four civilizations including Aksum thing is actually Sasanian and only written by Mani as far as I know. It's worth nothing that I've seen it quoted in works about Aksum but never in actual works about the persians or Manicheism. The only work about iranians that mentioned ethiopians was about how their cosmovision had Iran in the center and other regions surrounding it, one of the regions had ethiopians and arabs all dumped there together.

Bantus are crafty, slicker than your average Afro.
They are 'were' a proud and strong people.
Knew a Bantu once upon a time, they never had a written language but made it a point to share all knowledge with everyone in the society.
The Stonework is inexplicable but it could have been the result of superior land surrounding the area

There's no evidence to suggest it was anything but the local peoples that made it. It doesn't have any kind of features that suggest the Arabs made it, and the Arabs never went that far inland. It was likely the result of some local culture getting powerful thanks to trade with the Arabs. However, when the trade dried up, the culture declined and people went back to the subsistence farming they were used to. With no written language to draw on, exactly what happened got forgotten by the locals.
>>
Why couldn't the African locals have made it?

I don't understand why this is such an impossible concept for some people.
>>
>>380936
Because it shatters their entire worldview of blacks being subhuman. Of course they can't stand the concept
>>

If you've actually read their books they literally discount the possibility of natives making it, they literally state the native architecture derives from a simplified version of foreign design.
>>
>>381332
What period are these books from, wiki suggests

>The earliest known written mention of the ruins was in 1531 by Vicente Pegado, captain of the Portuguese garrison of Sofala, who recorded it as Symbaoe. The first European visit may have been made by the Portuguese traveler António Fernandes in 1513-1515, who crossed twice and reported in detail the region of present-day Zimbabwe (including the Shona kingdoms) and also fortified centers in stone without mortar

>Construction of the stone buildings started in the 11th century and continued for over 300 years.[2] The ruins at Great Zimbabwe are some of the oldest and largest structures located in Southern Africa

I wouldn't say so. "controversial" opinions are fine when you put them down intelligently. The only things getting deleted seem to be memephrases or "bad words".

I've been there. I don't get the obsession with it. It's just a smallish stone fortress. Why would anyone find it hard to believe blacks could build stone walls?

I've also been to contemporaneous sites like Angkor Wat and various Central American sites and those are 100000000000000x what Great Zimbabwe is, in terms of impressiveness.

>What's more interesting to know would be why it was built in the first place.

Very close to the famous castle part there's a highish hill with more walls built on top of natural rock outcroppings. That bit seems to make a lot more sense, since it's be a good defensive position with a good view all around.

IIRC the thinking is that they started out with the hill part, and then built the castle part below it later (perhaps when they felt really secure about where they were).
