Who would you guys say is the greatest historical military strategist and theoritician? How about in terms of naval warfare as well? This guy always comes to mind
This dude's work was basically looking at how Napoleon BTFO his side in battle he took part in and writting books about it
>>374058
Who do you think was a better military commander or strategist, Fredrick or Napoleon
I have his book although I guess the language very awful.
For naval warfare, my vote goes to Blas de Lezo.
Alexander The Great
Does anyone take this guy seriously or is he just a meme/proverb machine?

Hannibal is unquestionably one of the greatest of all time. His tactics, maneuvering, how he used and combat formations and combined different units involving missile, infantry, and calvary troops and even fucking war elepehants is legendary.
Also guy was a god damn master of logistics, moved an army of 46000 + his war elephants from Spain to the Alps in a rapid amount of time.

Hannibal was a brilliant tactician, but a strategist?
I mean, as far as can be reconstructed, his strategy for the 2nd punic war was to win some battles and incite a revolt amongst the Roman client-states, which didn't pan out.
If anything, it was his tactical acumen that compensated for his strategic shortcomings, not a strategic genius.

Most of those men an elephants died en route
Alexander crossing the Hindu Kush was more impressive

>Also guy was a god damn master of logistics, moved an army of 46000 + his war elephants from Spain to the Alps in a rapid amount of time.
losing half his army in the process
>>374156
Who is this and why?
>>374069
Freddy, didn't bite off more than be could chew
>>374028
FTFY
>>374202
Yes he did and he was only saved by a complete change in Russian policy because the new tsar loved him so much
>>374218
>not having God on your side killing your enemy leaders
>>374182
>Most of those men an elephants died en route.
And yet with only 26,000 men he still was stomping the Romans for 18 years without losing a single battle in Italy.
>>374328
No, he had 50,000ish after he made the march. He started with a smidge over 90k.
>>374334
Only hard numbers I've seem from modern historians is less then 46,000 after after the march through the Alps and arriving in Northern Italy. Never ever seen as high as 50,000 for him.
Especially since the core of his army outside of his Spaniard veterans from Nova Carthago were mainly mercenaries and some Alpine Gaulic tribesmen.

Wikipedia but best I can post at the moment since I'm not home:
>He (Hannibal) fought his way through the northern tribes to the foothills of the Pyrenees, subduing the tribes through clever mountain tactics and stubborn fighting. He left a detachment of 20,000 troops to garrison the newly conquered region. At the Pyrenees, he released 11,000 Iberian troops who showed reluctance to leave their homeland. Hannibal reportedly entered Gaul with 40,000 foot soldiers and 12,000 horsemen.
>>374218
Except he didn't take the bite.
The war with the French and Russians came after his gambit for Silesia; his next war with the Austrians (as well as their French and Russian allies) was going to happen regardless. If anything, he scores points for securing Anglo funding for his seemingly doomed front.
Genghis was by far the best military strategist known to man.
His best underling, Subutai, was the best tactitian.
Not sure about naval warfare. Yi or good ol' Horatio are the two greatest imo.
>>374028
>How about in terms of naval warfare as well?
Yi Sun-shin nigga
>>374369
One battle which is most likely a fluke and when you have cannons and they dont doesnt make you the best ever.
>>374360
We're discussing a side-topic, don't get your panties in a twist over it.
>>374374
But its beaten to fucking death in literally every military related thread. And the answer is obvious. He isnt the best ever.
>>374368
But it was Subotai, not Genghis, who came up with the strategy of controlling the Eurasian plane and the trade routes along it.
>>374381
I don't care dude, you don't tell me or anyone else what to discuss. Its thread and topic relevant, get over it.
>>374400
I tell you to do whatever I want to. And its not relevant if its beaten to death and derides the main topic.
>>374409
Nah, don't think so little man.
>>374409
>It makes me so mad people are talking about things I don't like!
Grow up.
>>374417
>>374423
>I worship a failed military commander and have to spam every thread with it
>>374433
Wew, your ass pain is pretty hilarious over the fact its something as simple as two anons talking about someone they have an interest in discussing. You are one dank shiposter.

People still read the Art of War, so yes. It's a pretty good book, even if most of the advice is pretty broad

Yes?

Telling someone you're reporting them are against the global rules. Someone may report you for it.

Hannibal was good but a wild Scipio appeared....
