Nah it was the Tokugawa that really fucked it all up. Hideyoshi simply didn't want Japan to lose its identity. He still understood the usefulness of trade.
The Tokugawa shut it all down because they excluded everybody that allied with the Toyotomi from taking part in government in any way. Naturally they turned to trade with foreigners instead and started getting richer. Fearing that rivalry, all trade with foreigners was cut off and isolated Japan for a couple of centuries.
