Here's some British Empire flags and their modern replacements, if applicable.

The first flag used while England was a republic
One of my favorites.

Flag of the Republic of China (1912–1928)
Didn't realized China had this flag. I'm going to learn a lot about my Civilizationfu while on this board.
>>226987
ok, kid. This isn't a "rate my flag general" anyway.
American Indian Movement flag
>>226987
Isle of man a shit. Isle of Wight best
>>226994
Very odd. But very creative. Think I'm going to find more Native American flags. They seem to be interesting and somewhat underexposed.
>>226983
>>227007
Isn't that the current flag?
>>226987
Kill yourself
Flag of Northern Ireland before its parliament was dissolved during The Troubles. It currently has no official flag.
>>226994
That's clever and effective symbolism, the colour combination is unique as well. Nice.
>>227009
Nope, current one has the coat of arms on it.
>>227009
Is it?
>>226946
The Forster flag is fucking awesome. Looks like a futuristic design from the 1970s.
>>227030
Looks a little communist in design. Any relation?
>>227039
The NI flag?
>>227044
Yes.
>>227028
>>227051
That is fucking sexy.
>>226961
Rhodesia missing a couple of flags there
>>227049
There's no communist influence. The red hand is a symbol of Ulster, which is a traditional province of Ireland covering the north east (the traditional region is larger than Northern Ireland). The six-pointed star represents the six counties in Northern Ireland. The red cross either is the cross of St George (England's flag) or is taken from the Ulster armorial banner (see image), I've heard both as origins.
The crown represents the monarch United Kingdom.
>>227065
Here's the traditional provinces.
>>227070
Connaught has one of the coolest flags in the world.
>>226959
Canada's flag was really cool. It possessed much more nobility than a fucking maple leaf.
>>227084
Colonial flags are to show who owns that shit, not be cool and create a sense of national identity in the colonial citizens. You see one of those near identical flags, you know it's bong turf.
>>226977
lol it's funny cause they're not straight edge
>>227051
new desktop thanks
>>227093

I like this one. Teutonic Flag
I don't think this was ever a real flag, but it came up in my google search for the teutonic flag and it's pretty bad ass
>>227065
>>227070
To add on to this, before representing the whole province, the red hand was a symbol of the O'Neill family, who owned land in the area and fought against the English. This lead to Ulster being pacified and colonized by protestants which ironically caused the red hand to be used as a unionist symbol.
>>227084

What was it that made Ethiopia an empire even?
Why change a flag to represent your political group? Was it that important?
>>227110
I thought the red hand was for the delusional british sailors who were promised land in the Ireland for hte first person that claims it or some such, so someone cut off his hand to throw it overboard and be first.
It sounds weird just typing it
>>227159
You know that Serbs don't pronounce the "e"? I'm not claiming that Serbs from Serbia and Sorbs are the same people, just that they're related

This was supposed to be some kind of Norse Pagan flag or something, but I think it works much better as Fascist Mexico.
>>227311
This would make a great "New Zealand Technocracy" flag. Maybe replace the leaf with a cog?
>>227170
>Australian Fascist state
>Eureka Stockade flag
Triggered, It is quite literally the opposite of a Fascist flag
>>227315
This is a reconstruction of an actual, historical, Norse Pagan Flag.
>>227324
A Ruski once described this flag as "a guy stabbing a reptile :D". I find that apt, and suitably Russian.
>>227327
Bhutan is lead by a Dragon King. Bhutan also has a legally enforced dress code and menu. Yes, it is illegal to serve foreign food or dress western in Bhutan.
This also proves complex flags can be fucking awesome.
>>227327
The Saint George myth is a lot less heroic when you make the dragon that small.
>>227154
faggot.
>>227329
Finally, I have this. It's, again, some kind of Norse Pagan flag or something, but fuck if I know what the creator intended it to be the flag of. I want to say some bizarre "Norse Pagan USA", but I don't quote me on that. I have it in three colors because it's actually rather nice.

Iirc Ethiopia had territory in the Arabian peninsula and they also had more land to the west. That and they called their ruler an emperor or the Ethiopian equivalent thereof it was an empire.
>>227169
What makes any empire an empire? Is it the foreign conquest? The assimilation of different people groups into your own? Is there a size requirement?
>>227169

>the OP says post historical flags
>some fantasy shit ITT
Ok, here's my favourite, family
>>227169
I believe that, at least initially, the country was composed of a variety of tribes, city-states, and petty kingdoms, all of which submitted to the emperor. That's why for much of its history Ethiopia didn't have a capital city, as the emperor and his (massive) entourage would summer at a different town every year. It was an effective way to unite and rule an otherwise very decentralized and culturally disparate region.
Technically speaking, it was an empire because the patrimony of the state included lesser nations and states under the aegis of the emperor.

Sometimes the previous national flag had symbolism that was incompatible with your current ideology and would be pretty nonsensical to hold onto.
Like, no way would revolutionary France hold onto their old flag literally plastered in monarchist iconography.

No that was an old Irish legend, if memory serves. First man to reach the shore becomes King of Ireland/Ulster (I forget which) so a cheeky little fucker cuts off his hand and throws it onto the shore as they sail near. The Plantation was a much more orderly affair. The intent was to settle, rather than conquer.
