People genuinely believed this in the early 90s when the Cold War was over, the Soviet block gone and the US stood unmatched on the top of the world for the first time in history. It seemed like all major political issues were finally gone and that the world was steadily going for a futuristic utopia that was going to happen in the upcoming new millennium.

It's funny to see from today's viewpoint how this optimism was unjustified.
