Tell me about the light eyes gene /his/.
How in less than 10,000 years was this one mutation able to spread and survive from Eastern Europe all the way to Western China, Northwest Africa, and even South Asia? Was there some sort of selective breeding involving eye color that we were never familiar with?

Light eyed people cucked everyone else.

Also green eyes are better than blue eyes.
>>
>>1363569
The question is how the gene was able to travel so quickly and thoroughly to other civilizations. Perhaps the conquering warrior classes all had light eyes then when they killed off the men of the areas they conquered they raped all the women and gave them the light eyed gene? Food for thought

Gypsies are not in my part of the country, they are found in the east and there are only 700.

Considering the fact that all of my family come from small towns there is no way a gypsy would get into the family without it being noted and talked about.

Also not from the north at all, samis very unlikely. Also look very nordic otherwise, don't fit in anywhere else.

>>1363464
Blue eyes are found all over, though there is a specific shade that I've seen in blacks very rarely that seems to be a pigment mutation in its own right

In my eyes the likelihood of one person being the founder for all blue eyed people is silly. Much like blonde hair it probably has one major region followed by other places with their own mutations (Australia, Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Cambodia, etc)
>>
>>1363849
Not him but what about the spread of conventional european blue eyes?

It seems crazy that in only 7,000-10,000 years one genetic mutation in one family could spread to millions and millions without something fucky going on.
And that's with the native population having dominant gene brown eyes.

Surely blue eyes weren't that attractive for mating purposes?

KEK

>>1363938
They can see slightly better in bright light and are technically more rare.

The whole advantage of blue eyes, aside from being pretty, is the fact that they allow slightly better night vision. They are more sensitive to bright light compared to brown eyes.
>>
>>1363954
this is true. it seems like every white person in USA has blue eyes, mostly a dark kind, but blue nonetheless. now green, truly green eyes? very rare. people usually mistake hazel for green.
>>
>>1363978
Really? I have green eyes, and a very complex mix of hair colors, from bright white blonde to saturated brown with bright tips. Reddish colors in between. Salt and pepper eyebrows and eyelashes that are dark at the root but white at the ends.

My eyes are green but there is yellow connective tissue that look like lightening bolts.

Genetics are weird. I don't quite fit into any category neatly. It's annoying, because I don't know how to describe it well. I can't just say I'm blonde or red headed or brunette. They all don't fit. What's an easy way to describe this garbage?
>>
>>1363464

The same way light hair and skin spread. Sexual selection. When everyone else has dark hair and eyes, someone with blue or green eyes or light hair is going to stand out, and simply for that fact they will more often be selected as mates. This is especially the case with women with such traits. I imagine the first few women with blonde or red hair and blue eyes were considered extremely valuable and coveted.
>>
>>1363683

this is a liberal le reddit myth. Your genes most likely match where you know your heritage comes from. That's just basic statistics.
>>
>>1363716
>I belong to haplogroup R1a-z284
All this proves is that your father was most likely norwegian.
>>
>>1364018
Is that true though? Usually different traits are not praised. Maybe it's a bad comparison but albino animals are rejected as mates. And as you know red hair is usually regarded as not a good thing, even today like in Britain.

10,000 years is a very long time. The most recent common ancestor of everyone on Earth might have lived as recently as 2000 years ago.

Nah. Trace back any genetic feature and you always end up with a single individual who was the first with that specific mutation.
>>
The Kalash in OP's pic related had light eyes yet they were splintered off from other Caucasians more than 10,000 years ago.

That news is old, we have a hunter gatherer from Italy, circa 14000 years ago, who already had the mutation, so it's even older.

That's true in the case of blue eyes, with Sub-Saharan Africans and Far East Asians having them only in the case of rare random mutations or having the Waardenburg syndrome, but green eyes can be found in places like Thailand and Congo, it's interesting. I wonder why.

Here's a map I made for every country I could find picture evidence of people with green eyes
>>
>>1365015

why do you assume its caused by cold temperatures?
>>
>>1365109
Because that is how white features developed
>>
>>1363661
Nah, the spread of blue eyes predates the IE expansion
>>
>>1365015
It does seem to be an upper paleolithic European thing, consider though that hunter gatherers were pretty damn mobile back then so such a nice mutation I suppose can spread fairly fast, especially over the Eurasian continuum.
>>
>>1365067
Green eyes is a slight mutation of brown eyes. And they still are rarer than blue eyes for some reason.
>>
>>1365109

Not tht guy but light eyes are much better at seeing in the dark than dark eyes are, and the further you et from the equator, the longer periods of darkness you experience during winter. So it's not cold temperatures per se that matters, but the day-night cycle.

I've known like a dozen black people with naturally blue eyes.

But also I live in the US and most black people have some white in them from slave-master rapings.

>>1363464
Guess ethnicity?
>>
Can anyone explain how blue eyes work? I remember vaguely reading something about them NOT being a recessive trait, but some trait that works in a really weird way in that it can skip generations and somehow show up in black people too if they have white ancestors on both sides.

I also wonder how it showed up in Mylène Jampanoï. Her mother is French, her father Chinese (no European admixture as far as I know) and she has blue eyes.
>>
>>1364603
>>1363900
No but I mean how could it go from 1 guy to millions of people in only 10,000 years.
Especially being recessive?
I know how genes pass down and such but 10,000 is not a very long time.

Unless it offered some huge benefit I don't understand how it spread that fast or well.

What selection pressure was there for an eye that saw SLIGHTLY better in the dark?

You can have attractive brown eyes. I have (light) brown eyes and i've been told to have beautiful eyes before.

They will probably not be attractive due to being brown though. Shape and the size of your pupils are important too.
