How many major countries have you ever battled with?
>>
I'm from the US.

So we've fought Russia, France, Britain, Germany, Japan, China, Mexico, and Korea.

Feels good, man.
>>
Mexico

We've fought the USA, France, UK, Spain, and Japan
>>
France

Everyone really. England, Austria, Germany, the Holy Roman Empire, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Russia, China, Japan, the Ottoman Empire, the Umayyad and Abbasid Caliphates, the Byzantine Empire, the Roman Empire...
>>
>>1318445
Philippines and Spain as well.

I don't think we technically ever fought France. The Quasi-War doesn't really count.
>>
Canada

Injuns, USA, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Serbs, Sandpeople

Basically a hockey fight with Russians in the civil war

Vietnam

Pretty much all of the major Chinese Dynasties and commie China in 1979, the US, France, and Japan in a guerrilla war in WWII
>>
>>1318445
Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Grenada, and the numbers of proxy and clandestine wars we funded.
>>
>>1318489
Don't forgot Italy.

I mean, you can.

It just doesn't matter.
>>
>>1318511
Does Austria-Hungary and Ottoman Empire count?
>>
>>1318516
I was going for all the countries that still matter today.
>>
>>1318503
You guys were 9/10 would quagmire again.
>>
>>1318385
I think it's cool to see how many empires a nation has destroyed. For instance, Rome destroyed Carthage and Ptolemaic Egypt. Britain destroyed Bengal. The United States destroyed the Spanish and Japanese Empires.
>>
>>1318659
Spain was pretty much the corpse of an empire by 1898

Well, I personally fought Ireland in a bar once.

No, it's not guerrilla war desu
>>
>>1318475
I just realized USA and France have never, ever been at war with one another. America fought basically every major power in the world at some point except France.

Japan

Japan battled Mongol Empire, Qing Empire, Russian Empire, German Empire, British Empire, French Empire and Dutch Empire.
Interestingly, all empires battled with Japan were diminished or broken. Japan might be Empire Killer desu.
>>
>>1319562
>Interestingly, all empires battled with Japan were diminished or broken
Interestingly every empire was diminished and broken at some point.
>>
>>1319562
It's funny, because after we (America) demolished you, we became more powerful than we ever were and more powerful than any other empire that existed.

portugal
when we wuz empirez we kicked the front teeth out of spain and it was pretty much this all the time... because why the fuck would someone change a winning formula?

usually outnumbered and even against 10:1 odds and portugal still won at the end
>>
>>1318445
Are you counting proxy wars with that?
>>
>>1319581
Sorry if I am insulting someone, but is it true that the Portugese would almost all of the time defeat their Spanish neighbors in battles or is that just cherry picked info graphs by Portuguese people?
>>
>>1318456
And lost to pretty much all of them... except France... sort of.
>>
>>1319856
They did win their independence from Spain.
>>
>>1318456
Forgot Guatemala bro.

>>1319858
>>1319856
They won all of them except the US. Despite having a relatively short military history, civil wars excluded, Mexico has been fairly successful. Shame that their first major international war after independence cost them a third of their territory.
>>
>>1319891
Pretty sure they only won the one with France because the USA bailed them out.
>>
Dane here

Other Danes, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Russia, Great Britain, Austria-Hungary, The Netherlands, Estonia, Poland.
>>
>>1319894
>sure they only won the one with France because the USA bailed them out
Nah, Mexico was winning before the US even got involved once the Civil War was over. Hell, Louis Napoleon and literally everyone else in Europe knew that Mexico was a lost cause before Maximilian even left Austria. There's a great journal article about it on jstor, as well as the memoir by Maximilian's physician/confidant which discusses it.
>>
>>1319232
Literally can't think of one Britain hasn't invaded in recent history
>>
>>1319856
They lost to France in the Pastry War

As for the second one, pretty much all of their country was conquered by the French and they were unable to kick them out.
Only a diplomatical intervention by the US after the Civil War ended convinced the French to withdraw from the country, thus leaving the Imperial forces unsupported
>>
Paraguay

We got massacred by Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil (Brasil mostly, really).
Fought against Bolivia in the Chaco War.
>>
The Netherlands

Fought with Spain, Britain, France, Germany, Belgium, Japan, Indonesia, Korea, and basically every other country that tried to get between us and our guldens.

yeah... that's pretty much it.
although the spanish were most of the time better equipped and always had greater numbers they lost pretty much every single major battle against portugal (can't remember a single one they have won but they probably exist) but in the end they managed to annex portugal to their kingdom not by war like they meant to but by marriage since the portuguese king died with no heir and the crown ended up falling in spanish hands... which is pretty ironic since they managed to get what they wanted so badly during centuries not during war but during peace

>pic related: our founder allegedly won our independence by beating the spanish with nothing more than a shield and a banana
>>
>>1320730

I agree, Portuguese were hard to kill. I happen to be of Maratha ancestry and during the battle of Vasai, causalities on our side were five times as high as Portuguese causalities. We did eventually win, thanks to numerical superiority and cannons.

>>
>>1319579
Don't be silly, that was just Japan killing its own empire
>>
>>1319941
>As for the second one, pretty much all of their country was conquered by the French and they were unable to kick them out.
>Only a diplomatical intervention by the US after the Civil War ended convinced the French to withdraw from the country, thus leaving the Imperial forces unsupported
Explicitly wrong. The Mexicans began to turn the tide in 1864 as French victory slowed in the North while only gaining victories in the South. The indisputable shift in favor of Mexico came in early 1865. The US didn't convince the French to leave until mid 1866.
>>

>ut in the end they managed to annex portugal to their kingdom not by war like they meant to but by marriage since the portuguese king died with no heir and the crown ended up falling in spanish hands... which is pretty ironic since they managed to get what they wanted so badly during centuries not during war but during peace

Completely false. Philip II had to conquer Portugal to exercise his right to inherit it, and the Duke of Alba defeated the portuguese in battle despite being outnumbered.

Also when Isabella was ruling the king of Portugal, who was married with a claimant to the throne, tried to invade Castille and was defeated.
>>
>>1318385
Spain.

All of them. It didn't always end well, but the sole fact that a nation with less population than Italy (and a ridiculously small population denity by western european standards) is considered "major" already says a lot.
>>
>>1319240
They don't really deserve the dignity of being counted as a sovereign opponent. It was just a bunch of slavers throwing a fit.
>>
>>1319034
>your republican brothers across the sea are fighting a noble battle against monarchy and reaction
>lol let's not only not help them but actively fight against them

What a bunch of pricks.
>>
>>1321139
Really debatable
The Republicans didn't start taking back territory until the departure of the French

Try and find any major victory the Republicans scored against the French in 1865
Protip: You can't
>>
>>1318385
Holland here.
We fought the English, the French, the Spanish, The Germans, Helped the Irish against the English, fought with multiple of these countries on multiple fronts across the oceans, on all continents (excluding asia).

If you like history it's great to be Dutch. Post ww2 the nation has been pretty shit.
>>
>>1321230
>excluding asia
Fuck, meant to say antarctica. i dont know what happened there.
>>
>>1321230
We fought Russia too

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-Russian_invasion_of_Holland
>>
>>1321230 o yeah that was just major wars. there's also minor skirmishes with China and Japan, and we had Indonesians fighting against us for independence.
>>
>>1321215
>The Republicans didn't start taking back territory until the departure of the French
Again, this is explicitly. Tacambaro was captured in 1865 and they took Chihuahua in March of 1866. The French didn't begin leaving until May.
>>
>>1321190
They can be counted if the war lasted 4 years.
A bunch of slavers throwing a fit would be rekt in a month.

>>Completely false. Philip II had to conquer Portugal to exercise his right to inherit it, and the Duke of Alba defeated the portuguese in battle despite being outnumbered.

a professional army led by the king's finest against a leaderless mob can hardly be considered a war or a campaign, they were merely a stepping stone and nothing else.

>>1320874
we had an indian guy posting here, who claimed to have a portuguese helmet that his ancestors took from the battlefield in some battle against the portuguese
but portugal main problem was they never had enough manpower to properly colonize their empire(around 11 million people today about half of that at its empire peak)

so being in numerical inferiority was something that we were always doomed to be in most battles

still, we had some neat generals and admirals to counter-balance one of the worst elites in europe(past 1600s)

>link related: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Cochin_(1504)
probably the best general we had
