Was the French revolution a failure?

>Allowed for radical factions to take over
>Allowed for Napoleon to take over
>Made any future government in France unstable.

The revolution failed, but things were never quite the same after so you could argue that it won in the long run/in the world of ideas.

Pretty much any political movement will split off into radicals and moderates. That's not a failure per se. There was literally nothing wrong with pre-1804 Napoleon. There's also a contradiction in these statements: you're at the same time complaining about the radical AND the moderate elements.

>Made any future government in France unstable.
That was the Coalition. That same Coalition that violated the Treaty of Amiens. The one treaty that was supposed to bring peace to Europe and give France the stability it needed after a chaotic revolution. And the stability it was never given, paving the way for the empire.

at what?

You have provided an incomplete question. As it stand any answer would rest on the value judgments of the answerer. May as well as 'how do you feel about the French Revolution' rather than couching it in a pretension of objectivity.

They toppled they existing government and the bourbons were never restored. Sounds like a success to me

Bourbons were restored, at the point of bayonets wielded by the Congress of Vienna.

It lasted only 15 years, until 1830, when unrest led to Charles X running to England.

Louis Phillipe d'Orleans was a constitutional monarch, king of the French, until the 1848 uprising.

The Great French Revolution is still going on.

The french revolution ended the feudal system in France, and in most Europe after the Napoleonic era.

If you think that the main goal of the French revolution was to establish a republic, then you’ve understood nothing to it.

The French revolution was like a “big bang”, not necessary THE beginning, but the beginning of something new.

It's good enough for me.

The French Revolution was essentially the forceful dislodging of the old guard (aristocracy) by the new guard (bourgeois) and it certainly achieved that.
>>
It literally founded the modern world. The organisation of almost every nation on Earth is based on the French Revolution. How in the fuck could you possibly classify it as a failure?

I'm sure you'd be much happier as a rightless serf for your feudal lord.

the only thing it got right, other than abolishing hereditary privilege

There's nothing wrong with post-1804 Napoleon if he had have won. All would have revolved around his faint beautiful mercy.

They guy was too good at his thing and thought he had too good of a hand to let it slide and consolidate the French Empire when he had the chance. That was his one failure.
