Will we ever know what happens to conciousness after death?
Why would you want this?
You believe an invisible unobservable thing persists death and goes inside a baby?

You have had consciousness before your life here and you will after. We live in an exciting time and will likely have a great deal of knowledge on this matter before your time here is up.

Your brain clicks off and you consciousness is terminated. Same thing that happens when a CPU burns out.
Nothing can be said about the soul except that the human concept of it exists and it itself might exist. Our purely analytic analysis can't bring us any further than that, and it definitionally can't be talked about in synthetic terms, so it's an interesting question if you are willing to grant it existing, but that much hasn't been properly established yet.
