Considering it's pretty fucking difficult to even define philosophy (considering the vast range of subjects it covers) it would be hard to give a single overarching point to it. Some would say it teaches you to live a happier life, others a more virtuous life, others to understand knowledge itself, still others to understand God, etc.

Ishmael. The great ape. There is no point to philosophy and that is the greatness of it. Philosophy schools formed the earliest democracies. The point however would be the attunement of reason and judgement. It goes hand in hand with ethics and common sense. However common sense and common reasoning are not the same but some how are understood as being interchangeable.
