>hardline Marxist-Leninists defend the suppression of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution
>but at the same time denounce the 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia as imperialism
Why is this?
>>1250022
Because Brezhnev a shit
Because communists are retards.
Is Marxism-Leninism the worst Marxist ideology?

this

Really, this should be in the sticky.
>>1250054
Simple as that really.
>>1250022
>hardline Marxist-Leninists
Such as?
>>1250022
Kruschevite Marxist-Leninists support both interventions.
Stalinist Marxist-Leninists see the Hungarian Revolution as an inside job essentially to excuse the removal of the Stalinist Government, it was necessary to crush it but it was a kruschevite conspiracy, and the Czechoslovakia revolution as an imperialist invasion of a revisionist country trying to escape Comecon.
tl;dr: As usual communist ideologies are more complex and sectarian than most people care to investigate.

That much I understand, but what escapes me is why Stalinists (which I should clarify is what I meant by "hardline" MLs, given how a lot of MLs get upset by that label) didn't see the Prague Spring as an imperialist/bourgeois conspiracy the way they did the Hungarian Revolution. What conditions in Czechoslovakia led to the different perception?
>>1250022
Hungarian revolution=capitalist reactionaires who wanted to be neutral like Austria
Prague spring=reforms leading to a more advanced form of socialism.
I don't get what's hard to understand.

Prague Spring was democratic reforms by the communist party with the intention of maintaining socialism without any hostility towards the rest of the Warsaw pact.
Hungarian revolution was reactionaries wanting to pull a Tito and also reform the economy.
I'm a socialist and I support neither.

Sauce needed. The first thing what most Hungarians did is that tgey established Workers' councils.
It is very wrong, but very prevalent for some reason to assume that the 1956 revolution had a singular objective. It was not a centrally organized civil war against the USSR, and the Party. While I am sure that some people wanted ally themselves with the imperialists, most of those who rose up wanted reforms and as primary objective; to get rid of the corrupt MKP Politburo/government which had effectively became the new bourgeois.
