Second paragraph talks about how he was constantly insulted publicly: "A diferencia de la de su contemporáneo Lope de Vega,[...] la vida de Cervantes fue ciertamente una ininterrumpida serie de pequeños fracasos domésticos y profesionales, en la que no faltó ni el cautiverio, ni la injusta cárcel, ni la afrenta pública."

It is widely known that Cervantes felt huge envy towards Lope, here is a verse of Quevedo mocking the situation: "La envidia su verdugo y su tormento hace del nombre que cantando cobras, y con tu gloria su martirio crece..."; "envy, his executioner and torment, makes of the cobra singing man, and with your glory his distress grows..."
Lope was the first man in history to call what El Quijote is: trash, here's the verse of Lope who read it before it was even out: "De poetas, muchos están en ciernes para el año que viene; pero ninguno hay tan malo como Cervantes ni tan necio que alabe a Don Quijote", "[...] but none is as bad as Cervantes nor as fool as Quijote".
It is also widely known that Cervantes was envious of Lope's poetry, because Cervantes could never become one. Just ask any Spaniard, they know this.

In summary, Lope de Vega made Cervantes his bitch all throughout his life, people stopped buying Cervantes works to buy Lope's, which took Cervantes ALMOST into poverty.
