>The Pill was more important to giving women reproductive rights than feminism
>The cotton gin was more important to ending of slavery in America than the silver war
>The printing Press was more important to the catholic church losing power in Europe than Protestantism
Technology is more important to the development of our history than individual movements or people so how come history classes are generally so people and politically centered?

People invent the technology

The guys who invented these things are normally never given as much credit in history.

>The cotton gin was more important to ending of slavery in America than the silver war

Factually incorrect. The cotton gin made slavery far more profitable than it had ever been. Slavery was on the decline before it was introduced, and its introduction indirectly lead to the civil war.

Because right off the bat you not only have to understand history but also whatever science, technology, engineering, or mathematics is in question, but also economics. That's three times the amount of work.

And what if the guy who made the thing doesn't WANT you digging around? Do you think Ford is going to give you specific data, even if it is 50+ years old? What about more nefarious characters, the George Soroses of their day? Do you think people who profit off of their works are going to let you go muckraking?

Yeah this.

Before the cotton gin was invented the process of separating fiber from seed was so labor intensive that only the largest plantations could eke out a profit growing it, and even they were limited in how much they could grow because at a certain point you don't have enough slaves to handle all the labor.

With the cotton gin that all changed. Suddenly even small operations could make a handsome profit growing cotton. Whether you had no slaves or 200 cotton was profitable either way. The more cotton you grew the more money you'd make. The more cotton you planted meant the more labor you needed. The surge in the demand for slaves was enormous. Certain southern states started looking to re-open the slave trade.

The Cotton Gin was a boon for slavery.
