But competition against the universe would be shared by life in general, while competition with your own and other species is a very significant factor in most environments, it's not rare, and many species are distinct from one another due to their niche not overlapping with other species.

Evolutionist scientists have already came up with an explanation for that, that the continents used to be below the seas before they were pushed up above ground by movement near the center of the earth.
If the Flood theory is true we should find far less marine fossils at the continent, as almost all of those have never been below the sea level apart from during the flood, the marine life not gonna have any time to that massively reach past the population of land animals during just the few years the flood lasted.
