So /his/, my highschool history teacher was a massive fucking liar and always told us the cheap misconception shit like polish cavalry and nazi tanks, and one story he mentioned was that one time a pope stopped a siege/sack of rome when the army was right at its gate by riding out alone to the leader and talking to him for a brief moment. Apparently, the army then packed up their shit and left.
Is there any historical truth to this, or was he just making shit up again? if so, what went down?

I don't know if it's you or your teacher who is mistaken, but the story about the pope stopping the invaders has little or nothing to do with the sack of Rome of 410 by the visigoths. The visigoths were clearly not stopped, they sacked the fucking city.
The story is about how the pope stopped Attila the hun, not Alaric the goth. And, well, it's probably a tale or something but there's a part of truth and it's a fact that Attila (unlike Alaric) stopped, packed up his shit and left before attacking Rome. Now you're free to decide if it's believable or not that he was stoped by the pope since we don't know the reason.

The lowdown my teacher gave me was that the Pope met Attila and basically reasoned with him.
Basically Attila's camp was suffering from pestilence and other complications and the Pope pointed a sack of Rome would leave Attila even more vulnerable. I can't remember exactly but I believe the Roman's also payed them.

I read from somewhere that Attila stopped because he was amazed at the Pope, that he was polite. I think he knelt or something.
Some say the Pope gave an amount of money, but some sources say there was no money given. Another is that Attila's men persuaded him to stop, because he might share the same fate as Alaric, who died shortly after sacking Rome.
Modern historians argue that it can be strategic reasons, like the pestilence or food shortages. There's also because they were over-encumbered by their booty from pillaging.

The Polish calvary charge against Nazi tanks is a complete fabrication.
That Polish calvary unit was in transition to becoming a mechanized infantry unit and out of SEVERAL calvary charges against Wehrmarcht INFANTRY units, THREE of them were either planned but not executed or outright failed.
The Polish also had ACTUAL TANKS with their horses and USED THEM.
The FUCKING NAZIS, and then the THE FUCKING SOVIETS, perpetuated the myth for their own ends.
