What does /his/ think about Distributism? It's an obscure economic ideology that was created in the late 19th and early 20th century by the Catholic Church which aimed to be a third alternative to Capitalism and Socialism

so obscure i no nothing about it

Based on the tiny amount of study I've done it seems really incomplete. The Church was its primary driver, along with GK Chesterton and a variety of other Catholic intellectuals. It certainly doesn't seem to have the robust thought behind it that communism and capitalism have.

That said, as a Catholic myself I'm naturally intrigued. I think it's still sort of lying there waiting for someone with the right intellectual rigor to more thoroughly flesh it out. Maybe that will happen now in the age of Francis.

Utopianism of the anarchist variety and one that could only be introduced and maintained in our time with great violence - which is why given its origins is more a curiosity rather than a serious proposal.

Whats more our globalized and technolgical advanced economy has destroyed the standards and expecations that could allow such a system to be viable

I'm a big fan. I think it's possible for the first time in a few hundred years, thanks to modern technology.

How so?

Interesting idea, but its goals are better achieved via georgism in my mind.

Just looked it up. It seems somewhat like a mutuali st economy but with a state. I couldn't really see it catching on, for the same reason I don't think mutuali sm will ever really catch on: people who are so dissatisfied with the status quo that they want a system-wide overhaul aren't going to go halfway.
