The whole point of the Judicial Branch is for it to be above the political banter which is why the justices behave so civilly compared to politicians. Force them to run for office and they'll devolve into animals just like politicians.

And here is the entire problem with this argument. The court is already political. They might act all high and mighty, but they're basically another legislature now. I support marriage equality, but via democratic means. If they had to worry about being reelected, that wouldn't have happened.
